CNN Philippines anchor and correspondent, Mitzi Borromeo, will start to step away from her news anchor role. She will soon focus on creating documentaries and long-form programming. She will also get the opportunity to lend her award-winning experience and perspective to a different format.
Mitzi has come full circle from her early beginnings as an executive producer and writer. In 2010, she has also developed and produced Street Smart, the first locally produced science and culture documentary series. In 2014, she wrote The Full Story: EDSA, a two-part documentary on the historic national event.
Mitzi had always love long-form storytelling. Profiles showcase her love for the said passion. Profiles had also received the KBP Golden Dove Award for Best TV Magazine Program in 2017. Mitzi also won Best TV Newscaster for her work on CNN Philippines’ Newsroom.
“We go beyond the headlines and immerse deeper in the lives of inspiring people, institutions, or places to learn about their journey and contributions to building a better nation”, describing what the said current affairs show will contribute.
Mitzi’s move also remained a game-changer to the network’s line-up of documentary offerings. She also had a hand in launching Digi-Pinoy.
It will be CNN Philippines’ first digital series that explores how information technology has changed the Filipino way of life. The said digital series also remained as a homecoming for Mitzi. She got her start in documentary-making and has always called it her passion.
Digi-Pinoy will allow Mitzi to explore her fascination with studying human behavior and telling unique human stories-this time in the context of the digital age. Mitzi also shared how Digi-Pinoy and Profiles will be a magical moment for her:
“The magical moments for me are in making connections with people and meeting minds-it’s like falling in love each time as I broaden my understanding of the world through their lives and unique stories. I’m very grateful and excited for the opportunity to mine more interesting stories through documentaries like Profiles and Digi-Pinoy, and share them with the audience in the hopes of promoting positive values and renewing faith in humanity.”
Digi-Pinoy will premiere in the following months at cnnphilippines.com and facebook.com/CNNPhilippines, while Profiles airs at CNN Philippines every Wednesday, 9:30PM.
