- Liza Soberano is a proud Filipino!
- She responded to a netizen’s claim of not being a Filipino.
- A netizen quickly pointed out that she may be a Filipino but she does not look like one.
Netizens recently questioned the appearance of the cast of ABS-CBN’s upcoming fantasy series, Bagani. Many had slammed the creators into letting Liza Soberano and Enrique Gil drenched with tanning make-up or bronzer.
Netizens also added that the stars of a Philippine mythological series should have had Filipino features instead of Euro-centric ones.
Miguel Poblador compared Bagani and the acclaimed Marvel film, Black Panther, on paying homage to their culture. Paolo Cruz posted the screenshot of the said tweet and added his own insight.
However, die-hard LizQuen fans reported his account.
Netizens also pointed out that even though Bagani is set in a fictional world, it still remains about Philippine mythology. They also continued that putting heavy bronzer on actors only added to the insult that melanin-gifted Filipinos can’t represent the Philippines on television.
They further added that dark-skinned Filipinos can’t even represent their own fictional mythology.
A netizen claimed that Liza and Enrique are not Filipinos.
“Not against Enrique and Liza pero kasi… gets. Hahaha di naman sila pinoy”
Liza responded to netizen’s claims that she is not a Filipino.
“And who says were not pinoy? My Father is full filipino. I was raised by two filipinos since the age of 4. I looooove sinigang i think thats as pinoy as pinoy can get.”
Although, Liza’s love for sinigang just doesn’t cut it. Some netizens quickly pointed out that she may be Filipino, she has Euro-centric features and does not look like one. One netizen also added that her non-Filipino features became the reason why she rose to fame in the Philippines due to its high colonial mentality.
“sweetie, what they mean is you’re not Filipino looking, you’re mestiza and mas nangingibabaw ang American blood mo than your Filipino blood. Maybe that’s one of your advantages kaya ka sumikat sa PH, cause pinoys love white beauties? Mataas ang colonial mentality,di mo ba pansin?”
