- Jaya struck the gong three times in one episode leaving defending champion to win by default.
- She also had to excuse and compose herself after kicking off the third contestant.
In the recent episode of It’s Showtime, Jaya had to compose herself after prematurely ending the performance of three Tawag ng Tanghalan contestants. The segment features hopefuls from Luzon, Visayas, Mindanao and Metro Manila.
Three of said hopefuls will then challenge the defending champion who returns daily. In his absence, Jaya replaced the usual head of judges, Rey Valera.
Jaya had a task of striking the gong when a contestant doesn’t meet the judges’ standards. The gong also ultimately means being kicked out from the competition. This happened to three consecutive contestants which left no preliminary winner who can challenge the defending champion. Douglas Dagal clings to the “golden microphone” for the third day by default. Two more wins will then guarantee him a spot in the semi-finals.
Jaya jested after stopping the last contestant:
“Puwede na po umuwi? Hindi ko sinasadya na ang ating Valentine ngayon ay maging malungkot.”
She also excused herself and suggesting her blood pressure rising.
“Ang puso ko, teka, hindi ako makahinga, Vice, wait. My blood pressure! I’m really cold right now.”
Vice Ganda, then, requested drinking water for Jaya to help compose herself. Jaya also prompted that she won’t be coming to the studio the week after.
“Naku, hindi ako papasok next week. Painom, ha. Hindi ako nag-jo-joke.”
Jaya also explained, addressing the contestants who just got kicked off from the segment.
“Ayoko sana talaga mang-gong ngayong araw na ‘to, pero talagang na-tyempo lang po. Hindi ko alam what it is today. Ito lang ‘yung araw na ‘yun, it’s not working for you guys, sa inyong tatlo… Today is not a good day for you, kayong tatlo. I’m so sorry, but keep on singing. That’s life. Nothing in this world is given to us na, pag binigay, perfect today. There are good days and there are bad days, and today happens to be a bad day.”
Vice also explained that the show never intended to kick out three contestants in one episode.
“Lilinawin lang namin: Hindi po namin sinasadya na mang-gong ng tatlo. In fact, ayaw namin, dahil ma-a-undertime po kami. So stay lang kayo diyan, huwag kayo aalis, mag-iisip kami ng gagawin namin sa next gap. Nakakatawa ‘to, magbabaliwan na lang po kami.”
