In this business, good looks are not enough. You need to have great talent and good attitude if you want to stay in the competition. Last year brought us a new set of young new artists that showed a lot of promise or caught everyone’s attention.
And based on what they have accomplished last year, it looks like a lot of young actors and actresses are on the right track to steal the spotlight this year. Therefore, we bring you the list of the 10 Young Stars to Watch Out for this 2018.
10. Janella Salvador
One of the busiest teen stars right now is Janella Salvador. Aside from her upcoming Regal Films musical fantasy entitled “My Fairy Tail Love Story” to be released this Valentine’s Day, she is also starring in the Jason Paul Laxamana romcom “So Connected”, opposite Jameson Blake.
9. Vance Larena.
Kierwin Vance Larena is a theater actor who starred in several stage plays and was even nominated Best Actor by Aliw Awards, for his performance as San Lorenzo Ruiz in “Enzo… Santo” (2010). His first role in a film was a supporting cast in Kip Oebanda’s barkada comedy Bar Boys.
This year, he is set to star in Jason Paul Laxamana’s musical Bakwit Boys opposite Devon Seron.
8. David Licauco.
Filipino-Chinese actor and model David Licauco originally landed a modeling job via Mr. And Ms. Chinatown on ABS-CBN. He walked in several fashion shows, from Cosmopolitan’s, Coca-Cola, and Bench, and was featured in magazine covers including Candy, Chalk, and Garage Magazine.
He is now part of GMA artists and is known for portraying Malik for GMA’s Mulawin vs. Ravena. He recently caused a stir among netizens when he stunned every one after his walk in last year’s Bench Under the Stars fashion show.
7. Devon Seron.
Ex-PBB housemate and previous Girl Trends member Devon Seron recently starred in two movies last year. The first was Regal Film’s horror flick Pwera Usog alongside Sofia Andres and Joseph Marco, and the second was Filipino Korean production You with Me, opposite Korean heartthrobs Hyun Woo and Jin Ju-Hyeong.
This year, she is set to star in the upcoming musical coming-of-age film Bakwit Boys by Jason Paul Laxamana.
6. Tony Labrusca.
Pinoy Boyband Superstar alumni Tony Labrusca became an instant sensation after the viral McDonalds commercial entitled “Tuloy Pa Rin”.
But he later proved that he’s more than just an overnight sensation as he became part of the hit Primetime horror-fantasy series La Luna Sangre to show off his acting skills. He has recently released his debut single “Tanging Ikaw” and was awarded as the Best New Male TV Personality by the PMPC Star Awards for TV last year.
5. Jane Oineza.
PBB alumni Jane Oineza has been in the showbiz industry since she was young. She even received recognition overseas, winning a World’s Best Actress certificate and International Emmy nomination for her role in the drama anthology Maalaala Mo Kaya (2012). But her career only took off after her controversial and memorable stint in the reality show Pinoy Big Brother back in 2014.
After that, she had her first starring role in a television series via the hit afternoon drama Nasaan Ka Nang Kailangan Kita in 2015. It was followed by supporting roles in Star Cinema’s A Love Affair (2015) and Always Be My Maybe (2016).
Last year, she starred in two horror movies, Bloody Crayons under Star Cinema and the MMFF entry Haunted Forest from Regal Films.
4. Sue Ramirez .
Sue Ramirez recently starred in the Regal Films horror flick The Debutantes, played a supporting role in the hit horror fantasy Primetime series La Luna Sangre, and is currently one of the main casts of the ABS-CBN afternoon drama Hanggang Saan, opposite Arjo Atayde.
This year, she will star in Jun Lana’s upcoming teen romance film Ang Babaeng Allergic Sa WiFi, together with Jameson Blake and Jerome Ponce.
3. Khalil Ramos.
Pilipinas Got Talent Season 3 Grand Finalist Khalil Ramos had his first acting role in the 2014 blockbuster hit She’s Dating The Gangster. He has played multiple supporting roles in the past, but he only got his first starring role last 2016 in the award-winning coming-of-age indie film 2 Cool 2 Be 4gotten. His role in the film even got him a Best Actor nomination from the 12th Cinema One Originals Film Festival and the 2017 40th Gawad Urian Awards.
He also starred in the action thriller film Riding In Tandem opposite Jason Abalos which had a limited release last year. And last July 2017, veteran filmmakers Erik Matti and Dondon Monteverde announced that Khalil has signed on to become Reality Entertainment’s first contract artist. He is contracted to do five films under the said movie company starting this year.
He was recently announced to star in an indie film with Andi Eigenmann entitled “Saturno,” which will feature the Philippines in an alternate future “where extrajudicial killings have reached a breaking point.”
2. Joshua Garcia.
One of the country’s most bankable actors of his generation, Joshua Garcia has grown so fast from that timid young teen from Pinoy Big Brother three years ago. His first starring role in the big screen with Julia Barretto in the 2016 MMFF blockbuster his Vince and Kath and James got him rave reviews, praising his acting skills and was even being compared favorably to John Lloyd Cruz.
Last year, he starred in two Star Cinema films, first was Antoinette Jadaone’s Love You To The Stars and Back and Cathy Garcia-Molina’s Unexpectedly Yours, both of which were certified box-office hits. He is currently part of the Primetime mystery drama The Good Son.
1. Jameson Blake.
Another product of the hit reality series Pinoy Big Brother, Jameson Blake was one of the original members of the It’s Showtime all-male dance group Hashtags. In 2016, he had his first acting stint as the mischievous Maxim in the indie coming-of-age film 2 Cool 2 Be 4gotten. His role earned him a Best Supporting Actor award from the 2016 Cinema One Originals Film Festival. After his award-winning performance in the movie, he was cast in the 2017 Cinemalaya entry Nabubulok (The Decay), a crime drama film by Sonny Calvento. This was followed by a lead role in Kip Oebanda’s 2017 Cinema One Originals entry Nay, a special role in Star Cinema’s Unexpectedly Yours, and a lead role opposite Jane Oineza in the MMFF horror flick Haunted Forest.
He is going to star in three upcoming films this 2018: first is the Regal Films drama Mama’s Girl (starring Sofia Andres, Diego Loyzaga and Sylvia Sanchez), Jason Paul Laxama’s So Connected (to be paired with Janella Salvador) and the Jun Lana romcom Ang Babaeng Allergic Sa Wifi (with Sue Ramirez). In a span of two years, Jameson already had 7 movies to his credits and is considered as one of the most in-demand young actors of his age in the showbiz scene today.
