Robin Padilla recently went under fire after demanding a Korean Pilipinas Got Talent, Kim Jiwan, contestant to speak in Tagalog. Richard Juan, a permanent Hong Kong resident, holds a Filipino citizenship and remains a Filipino TV personality.
He recently reacted to the video of Robin’s rude encounter.
Richard used to be a part of a segment in Eat Bulaga! titled, You’re My Foreignoy. He became a host on the noontime show. Richard also became Pinoy Big Brother 737 housemate. In a tweet, Richard also wrote how he didn’t know what to say.
“Wow just saw the video on the Robin Padilla controversy…as a “foreignoy”, I’m not sure how to feel!!”
Kim Jiwan, a 20-year-old Korean, grew up in Muntinlupa. Robin criticized him for not learning Filipino or Tagalog despite living in the Philippines for most of his time. Robin, then, told Kim that he should speak Tagalog first before he uses the actor-judge for his close-up talent trick.
Netizens also replied on Richard’s tweet. Many netizens pointed out that what Robin did remained a false act of patriotism.
One netizen also noted that Filipinos joined foreign talent shows and become respected.
“What he did isn’t even an act of patriotism but an act of humiliation. Many Filipinos join overseas survival/talent shows yet they were respected. For example is 4th impact. Sumali sila ng kpop star pero they were treated w/ respect.”
Some netizens also gave a cry for equality and kindness.
“Sometimes pinoy pride is such a stupid thing. No matter what race, we should show kindness towards everyone for the sake of humanism. Everyone deserves to be respected.”
Some netizens, then, shared how they felt embarrassed of what Robin did.
“I was sure how I felt with what he said. Embarrassment and that bigotry and false sense of nationalism is on television”
