Mr. and Mrs. Cruz tells a story of two people embarking on a journey together. Every debate, banter and corny jokes between them look realistic. However, sometimes it looks uncomfortably awkward. Their conversations can also be dragging at times but will absolutely make you smile. Keep your eyes open as Mr. and Mrs. Cruz focuses on symbolism that haunts the two main characters. A huge expectation has been given to the said film as it is written and directed by Sigrid Andrea Bernardo who also helmed the box-office hit Kita Kita.
JC Santos plays Raffy Cruz, a mechanic who doesn’t believe in marriage, anymore. JC’s portrayal of Raffy lets you remind of the guy that girls usually fall in love in high school. He can be charming but a jerk at the same time. His sweet words will surely push you in but his attitude will make you pull away. As the movie progresses, his character develops into this understanding person.
Ryza Cenon, however, plays Gela Cruz, a mysterious woman who believes in the traditional values of marriage. Ryza’s portrayal of Gela lets you remind of the girl who girls usually wanted to be in high school. She can be smart but foolish at the same time. A warm smile shields people away from the cool interior she actually has. As the movie progresses, nothing really happens to her. Although people can understand her more, her character doesn’t develop that much. She still holds secrets close to her heart.
Both of their pain relates to their views on wedding and marriage. After Raffy’s ex-fiancée leaves him on the altar, he stopped believing in marriage. He begins to believe that you really don’t need to get married to have a commitment to the person you love. However, Gela still believes in the traditional values of marriage. She also still believes that marriage remains the formality and legality mark of their commitment.
Palawan also adds to the cinematographic quality of Mr. and Mrs. Cruz. Aside from falling in love with their characters, you will fall in love with the beauty of Palawan. The Underground River in Puerto Princesa plays a huge role in the story. The magic inside the cave of the national park lets you experience what it feels in the Wonder of Nature.
The colors in the cinematography bring a psychological effect in films. The color palette in Mr. and Mrs. Cruz evokes the mood of love and pain for the film. The blend of purple in some of the scenes of the film below will let viewers feel the ethereal fantasy of their experience. It could also let the viewers feel the mystical eroticism of their unexpected relationship.
