Renowned TV and film director, Maryo J. Delos Reyes, passed away on January 27, Saturday. The 65-year-old director suffered a heart attack while attending a birthday party in Yugo Restaurant in Dakak Park and Beach Resort in Dapitan City.
Although rushed in Dr. Jose Rizal Memorial Hospital, Doctor Maricel A. Quintano declared him dead on arrival.
Celebrities paid tribute to the acclaimed director they worked with.
Ruffa Gutierrez cried out how Philippine Cinema lost one of the finest directors.
“I’m in shock. Learned really sad news tonight. Philippine Cinema lost one of its finest directors. May you Rest In Peace Direk Maryo J. Delos Reyes… we did so many projects together and had the best times! You will be missed. Thank you for everything Direk!! “
Bela Padilla, then, just read about Direk Maryo’s passing and couldn’t help but wish she thanked him one more time.

Ruby Rodriguez also expressed her grief for the first director she worked with.

Sarah Lahbati expressed how Direk Maryo became the very first director who trusted her abilities.

Mikoy Morales shared how Direk Maryo has always been there for him.

Janine Gutierrez shared a tweet that she had an honor working with the famous director.

Gabbi Garcia took to Twitter to share her grief.

Ruru Madrid, then, posted a lengthy message to the director. He also wrote on the said post that he didn’t know what to do and that he just wants to hug Direk Maryo.
“Hindi ko alam kung ano ang gagawin at mararamdaman ko ngayon pero gusto ko lang yakapin ka Direk Maryo. Ikaw ang dahilan kung bakit ako nandito sa kung nasaan ako ngayon kung anong meron ako ngayon ikaw ang dahilan nun… Napaka swerte ko dahil nakilala kita ikaw ang naging mentor ko hindi lamang sa industriyang ito kundi pati na rin sa buhay ko.. Alam ko na hindi ko madalas nasasabi sayo ang salitang Mahal kita , alam ko na hindi ko lagi napaparamdam sayo kung gaano kita kamahal.”
However, he felt lucky enough to meet him and work with him in the industry. He also stated that the director was the first one to believe in his talent. Ruru, then, professed his love to the director.

Ara Mina posted a photo of the director on Instagram and wrote:
“RIP Direk Maryo🙏🏻Isa po kayo sa unang nagtiwala sakin. Isa ko sa mga masuwerteng artista dahil nakatrabaho po kita. Di man tayo lagi nagkikita pero sa tuwing nagkikita tayo lagi po tayong masaya mamimiss ko yung tawa mo direk at syempre ikaw. Marami po kong natutunan sa inyo bilang artista. You’re one of the best direk. We will miss you. 😢 #RIPDirekMaryoJ”
Rhian Ramos, however, only posted a black photo and shared a silent moment filled with gratitude towards Direk Maryo.

Lovi Poe also posted a lengthy caption on Instagram, adding how we lost another good man.
“Woke up to devastating news. We lost a good man and my heart is completely broken. I was so excited to start filming with you this February then this happened. The only thing that’s making my heart smile at this sad moment is that I know you’re happy now with God…and that you’re standing right next to the one you love. I am very lucky to have been your actor and your student during those months that we were all inseparable shooting Someone to Watch Over Me. You were more than just the captain of the ship. You were family. I love you and you will surely be missed, Direk Maryo. 💔”
Iza Calzado posted a lengthy message to the director. She shared that she is honored to call him a mentor and friend.
“Woke up to some very sad news today. One of my favorite people in the industry has passed on. He was my director for a show called Impostora where he guided me and made sure I would give my best. I remember how he loved acting out the scenes and would really empathize with the character and would get emotional while explained the scene, a clear sign of his passion for his work. He was my dad’s good friend. This photo was taken during his birthday party last October at Pepeton’s. I’m really glad I got to celebrate with him one last time. Honored and grateful to call you a mentor and friend. I will miss you, Direk Maryo. Send my love to Tito Jake and Daddy please. ❤️”
