There’s no stopping singer-actress and West End sensation Joanna Ampil to being best at her craft. That’s recently been evident on her role as Candida on award-winning Metro Manila Film Festival 2017’s entry “Ang Larawan.” Every one that watched the film could agree that she indeed gave her 100% in terms of portrayal.
During the awards night that’ll conclude this year’s much-anticipated film fest, Joanna was recognized as “Best Actress.” With tears of joy flowing from her eyes, she paid tribute to those who encouraged her all throughout the preparations of the movie.
“Thank you to the Metro Manila Film Festival; this means a lot to me. Thank you to (producer) Culturtain for a chance to play a beautiful role… to (director) Loy Arcenas who challenged me in so many ways and for stretching me as an artist and as a actress… To the people behind the scenes and my co-actors, I share this award with you,” Joanna emotionally said.
On a sunny afternoon in a cafe near Timog, Joanna and her co-star Rachel Alejandro, gathered media friends to talk about their thoughts and feelings regarding the overwhelming success of their work.
One of their producers in the venue revealed that it took them only fifteen days to shoot but almost a year to rehearse. It’s no surprise that a musical as extravagant as “Ang Larawan” needed time to be perfected.
Joanna on “M.I.A.” during promotion
On her defense, Joanna revealed the reasons why she was missing during their movie promotions. It was because the shoot and rehearsals took too long that after doing it required her to tend on other side contracts.
“It’s really not her fault,” the producer explained. “She tried to carve out dates for us but it didn’t work out. It’s not because she didn’t want to promote, she was so feeling bad.”
Joanna seconded, “I so wanted to promote.”
Rachel on co-star win
On the other hand, supporting actress Rachel Alejandro, couldn’t hide her happiness towards the award of her friend and co-star Joanna.
“I cried tears of joy when it was announced that Joanna won because at the moment, it all came back to me – the times we questioned our own talents and capabilities when we were preparing to be Candida and Paula. It was a tough road for both of us but I never doubted Jo would exceed all expectations.”
“Ang Larawan” is still showing nationwide in local and select cinemas.
