- Mead Johnson Nutrition conducted a survey on moms across Southeast Asia to sought which between IQ or EQ is important for their children’s future
- Survey revealed that most millennial moms agree that IQ and EQ are equally contributing to children development
There is a stigma that high intelligence quotient or IQ is what makes a successful child in the making. Knowledge of academics and other brain-related activities are expected to impart wisdom over the young ones in order for them to make rational decisions in the future. However, a recent survey commissioned by Mead Johnson Nutrition (MJN), a known supplier of nutritional needs of infants, children, and families, proved otherwise.
As new generations come, parents are also improving and trying out other approaches and styles on maximizing their child’s potential. Today, more and more Filipino moms are engaging their kids in various activities that help develop EQ before entering school. Unlike the past years, millennial mothers resort to balance cognitive and emotional factors as best ingredients for their children’s growth.
MJN revealed the results of their survey and found out that 88% of Filipino moms ranked EQ as equally, if not more important than IQ. Agreeing with the sentiment are the 91 percent of moms in Singapore, Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia. The estimated amount of enlightened moms is 3,000 among the six countries on the child’s ability to identify, evaluate, control, and perceive feelings.
Moreover, the survey also recorded 65% of child’s ability to adapt to any situation and 13 percent with empathy. Based on a World Economic Forum report last September 2017, skills such as Complex Problem Solving, Critical Thinking, Creativity, and People Management are all EQ traits and were ranked the most essential for young ages to have by 2020.
Not totally setting IQ aside, as it will remain a crucial factor, but EQ is now the dominant one. Along with the parents’ support and tender care, proper nutrition completes a child’s progress.
True to its brand, leading pediatric nutrition innovator, MJN, recently launched its biggest breakthrough since DHA – the reformulation that includes MFGM Pro or milk fat globule membrane in its milk for children, Enfagrow A+ Four.
