Paulo plays the role of Tony Javier, a vaudeville pianist.
According to Celeste Legaspi, veteran singer and stage actress, co-star Paulo Avelino needed to dub and re-dub his scenes for “Ang Larawan,” a movie-musical 2017 Metro Manila Film Festival entry.
Paulo plays the role of Tony Javier, a vaudeville pianist, that the Marasigan sisters (Rachel Alejandro and Joanna Ampil) took in as a boarder. Celeste, as Paulo’s dubbing coach, she revealed how wonderful he became as the film progress.
She praised him then said:
“He’s wonderful! He auditioned for the role, number one, and he took voice lessons for several months.”
Then, Celeste revealed:
“Pinahirapan ko siya. He dubbed and re-dubbed until I was happy with what he did. We were very impressed.”
Celeste also made it clear that Paulo wouldn’t be the only one who needed to dub and re-dub their scenes.
“Everybody wanted to do their very best. Hindi sila nagrereklamo.”
Celeste also shared that Paulo’s voice suits his role perfectly:
“Ang role niya medyo uncouth, bastos. Hindi si Martin Nievera or Basil Valdez, pero hindi rin naman babagay.”
Celeste concluded:
“Paulo can definitely carry a tune. Nung pinapabalik ko na siya para magre-dub, alam na alam na niya ang music. Di na siya kailangan turuan ng music. Yung nuances na lang; yung tamang tone.”
