* MMFF Execom announced that no release of partial box-office ranking for this year’s festival.
* MMFF spokeperson Noel Ferrer stressed the decision in order to avoid the ‘bandwagon effect’ on watching movies.
Unlike the previous Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF), the current Execom recently announced that they will not release partial rankings of festival box-office (when was this?). According to MMFF spokeperson Noel Ferrer, the decision was made in order not to create a ‘bandwagon effect’ to the Filipino moviegoers.
“The MMFF execom, along with the producers of the festival entries plus the theater representatives have agreed not to release any actual figures and rankings,” Ferrer reiterated.
In an interview with DZMM Teleradyo, MMFF executive director Thomas Orbos said that viewers tend to watch movies who are only doing good in the box-office.
“Napakahalaga po sa atin na pantay-pantay ang tingin natin sa lahat ng pelikula. Hindi natin matatanggal… kapag may sinabi na No. 1 iyong isa ay talagang gusto nating panoorin,” Orbos said.
MMFF executive director also thanked the Filipino viewers for the support on the festival and the Philippine cinema in general. “First time, record-breaking [ang] first day ng MMFF in its history. Pinakamalaki na number of ticket sales kahapon sa buong kasaysayan ng MMFF,” he added.
