In an exclusive interview with PEP.ph, GMA Senior Vice President for Entertainment Lilybeth G. Rasonable admitted she feels happy for the fan’s loyalty to Encantadia since its first run in 2005.
She also shared how happy the whole network felt when Encantadia became a benchmark for almost all fantasy series.
Lilybeth also shared the possible creation of Encantadia‘s sequel.
Lilybeth also mentioned that the show will remain a classic. Without dropping any names, she knows that whenever another fantasy series comes up, it will always be compared to Encantadia.
“You know, Encantadia is already a classic. You know, everytime something comes up, palaging nako-compare sa Encantadia. I mean, kami naman, we’re gratified because it has become the benchmark of telefantasyas. How can you not even be proud of something that you’ve done where people measure telefantasyas against?”
Recently, many have engaged in discussions and arguments about ABS-CBN Corporation’s newest fantasy series, Bagani. Even Encantadia creator Suzette Doctolero and Bagani head writer Mark Angos shaded each other on Twitter about the said programs.
Suzette, sarcastically, called out the obvious similarities as she joked Sofia’s outfit looked like a circus costume.
Encantadia‘s iconic characters represented basic elements: Pirena (fire), Amihan (air), Alena (water) and Danaya (earth). However, Bagani‘s characters also included the said elements except for one: Matteo Guidicelli (fire), Liza Soberano (air), Sofia Andres (water), Enrique Gil (earth) and Makisig Morales (wood).
Lilybeth also acknowledges the fans’ uproar for an Encantadia sequel. Although, she confirmed that it probably won’t happen anytime soon.
“If only for that, that is a contribution we have to television here in the Philippines and it deserves a sequel and for sure, it has to be thought of very well. You have to surpass the first and the second, so I think, bigyan natin ng time.”
The clamor and need for an Encantadia sequel started when the online channel of GMA released the director’s cut version of the finale which was 45 minutes long. Many scenes were removed to fit the limited airtime. The said version ended with a cliffhanger by showing the appearance of an Ice Queen (Solenn Heusaff).
