EON by UnionBank wins big in International awards

EON is a testament to the bank’s commitment to provide a fully-digital banking experience to Filipinos.
Launched in early 2017, EON introduced a whole suite of products and services that offers a truly delightful banking experience. It incorporates new cutting edge features that make the service more secure, efficient, and convenient to use, placing it at the forefront of UnionBank’s digital transformation mandate.
The most notable among the new technologies that EON introduced is ‘Selfie Banking’. By using state-of-the-art face recognition technology, the same technology being used by the US and other countries for border control, immigration, and securing critical infrastructure, EON spares its customers from all the hassle while attaining the gold standard in security – something you know, something you have, and something you are – a multi-factor authentication process to protect customers from the escalating threats to cybersecurity. Being the first to provide this service to its customers, UnionBank has been granted the patent to “Selfie Banking”, making it the first Selfie Banking in Asia.
EON has created a safe haven for users that makes it impossible for cyber fraudsters to access their accounts. Aside from Selfie Banking, users can lock their EON card when not in use and unlock their EON card only when they’re using it to pay for stuff. For lingering concerns over being charged for unauthorized purchases, EON also lets customers come up with a list of trusted webstores. Only transactions from these webstores will be allowed to go through. For added security, users may change their PIN remotely, there is no need to visit an ATM, as they can do this using the EON app. Users who would lose their EON card should worry not! Should they need to replace their card, they can just unlink the lost EON card, purchase another EON Starter Kit and link it to their existing account.
Getting an EON Account is a snap! EON Starter Kits, are available in Lazada and major convenience stores nationwide. EON customers can also activate their accounts through the EON app, which can be downloaded via Apple App Store or Google Playstore. The app’s services can be accessed anytime through multiple devices, anytime and anywhere.

EON by UnionBank took home the ‘Best Digital Bank’ award at the 2017 Asiamoney Banking Awards for its “impressive suite of digital services” that made use of the latest in banking technology to raise the standards of digital banking. The ceremonies were held at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Beijing, China last September 26 by international financial publication Asiamoney, which is part of global media group Euromoney Institutional Investor PLC.
Best Mobile Banking Project
EON by UnionBank was also recognized as the ‘Best Mobile Banking Project’ at the 2017 Asian Banker Philippine Country Awards, which was held by Singapore-based banking and finance research and consultancy firm Asian Banker, last October 6 at the Fairmont Hotel in Makati City. EON won the award due to the following features it offers: (1) an advanced electronic know-your-customer (e-KYC) system that required only the user’s picture and basic info when signing up; (2) a dedicated app that enables users to access the digital bank’s services anytime, anywhere, and from any device; and (3) its use of facial recognition to provide customers a convenient way to log in by using Selfie Banking.
Best New Digital Product Launch 2017
In late October, EON by UnionBank won ‘Best New Digital Product Launch 2017’ at the annual Visa client event, for its use innovative techniques and tools in the way the product was launched earlier this year.
