Malacanang Press Corps shared disapproval on Mocha Uson’s move to reclassify Rappler.
The Malacanang Press Corp on Wednesday, November 8 condemned move to reclassify online news company Rappler as Social media.
In a one page statement, the Palace reporters hit Mocha Uson’s penchant for Rappler and her request to PCOO Sec. Martin Andanar to move Rappler under her watch.
“The MPC deplores any attempt to curtail press freedom and will continue to ensure a strong free press, keep the public informed and the government in check,” said on its statement.
The Malacanang Press Corps is an independent organization of journalists from various news organizations assigned to regularly cover the Philippine President and Malacañang events. Its affairs are governed by by-laws in accordance with the constitutional provision on press freedom and MPC is not in any way under the control and supervision of the Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) or any government agency.
Their statement came on the heels of PCOO Asec. Mocha Uson’s request to remove Rappler from the MPC and reclassify it as social media which will be under her watch.
Uson on Tuesday, November 7 sent a letter of request to PCCO Sec. Martin Andanar stating its purpose to reclassify Rappler as social media since according to her it doesn’t have any print, radio or television broadcasting arm.
