Vandals on the Wall and UP Fair withdraw their invitation for ‘Jensen and the Flips’ and ‘SUD’ to perform in their events.
For the past few weeks, Hollywood has been shook with sexual harassment headlines with more and more actresses coming out with shocking revelations. Here at home, Filipinos were also speaking out about the same issue accusing members of local indie bands of sexual misconduct.
Just recently Vandals on the Wall announced that they revoked their invitation for Jensen and the Flips to perform for their Year-End event. The Rest Is Noise PH Year-End is a multi-genre event that celebrates local music, will bring together 21 music acts for one special last show for 2017. Happening on November 25, Saturday at the Century City Mall Event Space in Makati City.
Incidentally, UP Babaylan head Vince Liban shared a text message revealing that SUD was already axed out of the 2018 UP Fair.
SUD was also removed from the Quadricentennial Celebration of Colegio de San Juan de Letran – Manila set on November 29.
Here’s the official statement regarding this issue:
“In light of several deeply disturbing allegations, one of which was confirmed by the accused band member, we’ve decided to withdraw our invitation to Jensen and the Flips to perform in our year-end show.
We are reaffirming our position: we do not and will not condone, tolerate, or enable any vile or reprehensible behavior that exploits and abuses women. We stand by them and we hope that this action, we can help get their voices heard and stop normalize this behavior.”
@_tapsilog, a heavily followed personality on Twitter went on a rant about the said issue. He started with a tweet saying, “I want to talk about misogyny, sexism, and predatory/manipulative behavior in the local independent music scene in my experience.”
Followers went on and on about their own experiences about the gigs and events they attended. The thread grew long some netizens even sent direct messages to @_tapsilog. Netizens also shared their own experiences which exposed bands like ‘Jensen and the Flips‘ and ‘SUD.’
“Jensen and The Flips whomt’d’ve???? This is like attempted rape right???”
On the other hand, UP Babaylan head, Vince Liban, also took a stand against supporting these kind of bands. He shared a message he sent withdrawing the invitation for SUD at the UP Fair.
The Facebook post read, ”
“I bet there are better momol songs from bands who don’t harass women. I guess we’ll be needing recommendations mga kumare. Misogynists should have no place in #UPFair2018 much less, in our community. 🌈”
The text read:
“Informing you that UP Babaylan is withdrawing our invitation for SUD for the UP Fair. My team has alerted me of sexual harassment allegations of the band’s members on Twitter. As an org who values and advocates for women and their rights, we cannot tolerate these kinds of behavior. Sorry for the inconvenience. We hope you understand. Maraming salamat.”
SUD is also removed from the Quadricentennial Celebration of Colegio de San Juan de Letran – Manila on November 29. It was posted on the official Facebook account of the Colegio. The post included a photo of a letter from Jhennie Villar to the Rector and President, Rev. Fr. Clarence Marquez, O.P.
“The band ‘Sud’ will no longer be part of our Quadricentennial Year Two Celebration.”
Letran – Manila invited several guest artists for the Arriba Fest and for their Faculty Frolics. Since the band is involved in sexual harassment cases, they decided to withdraw their invitation.
The same netizen, @_tapsilog, exposed the band SUD for their sexual advances towards their female fans.
The tweet only consisted of two photos but then, they later added more confessions from other netizens.

The first photo was a female netizen attending a gig with their boyfriend.
She noticed a drunk Sud, the frontman of the band, was ‘touchy’ to an uncomfortable girl.
She shared that the band was still laughing. Sud didn’t even bother to apologize. He also didn’t decrease his ‘touchiness’ on the said uncomfortable fan who just wanted a photo.
This incident made the same netizen not to watch their set on the said gig.
@_tapsilog also added another tweet on the thread.
The tweet consisted of a netizen being asked to ‘hook up’ with Sud even when he already has a girlfriend.
Another tweet consisted of exposing other members of the band, Jimbo and Kohl.
The tweet also consisted of another netizen confessing in behalf of their hesitant friend.
“Ayan yung kay Jimbo, Sud at Kohl.”
This was not the first time that SUD faced allegations of objectifying women or slamming lesbians as porn fetish. Their PULP Magazine Cover shows the band portraying vintage-styled pornographers with Sud holding a camera appearing to film two women in their underwear.
This cover had started a Twitter war. Netizens also slamming SUD about the insensitive cover. Then, the behind-the-scenes also showing the said band members being intimate with two women.
