“From the powerful Darna to Dyesebel to a powerless Super Maam”
Marian Rivera’s star seemed lost its luster in her latest project, “Super Maam,” as it didn’t impress TV viewers on it pilot week.
Being GMA Network’s shining primetime royalty, many have expected Marian Rivera’s “Super Ma’am” to pull a great competition with ABS-CBN’s long-running action drama teleserye “FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano.”
But the former failed to impress as it piloted with underwhelming figures.
Piloting last September 18, 2017, Super Maam only got a meager share in TV ratings.
AGB Nielsen’s NUTAM People data showed Super Maam at 9.5%, 2.9% below FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano’s 12.4%. Kantar Media, on the other hand, reported a much bigger gap between the two. Super Maam posted 18.7%, 24.5% lower than FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano’s 43.2%.
On its second week, Marian Rivera’s telefantasya continued to lag behind Kapamilya action-drama teleserye FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano.
Seeing the trendline from AGB Nielsen and Kantar media data, Super Maam is almost stagnant with a little spike on compared to FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano’s downward upward trend.
Kid Audiences
Being a telefantasy, the show definitely gears towards attracting the kid audience. But the 2-year old “FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano” has cemented its stature with the kid audience that is why “Super Maam’s” entry to the primetime race failed to take a big slice of the pie.
It may have bitten a little from the regular kid audience who sees Cardo as their idol.
It may have bitten a little from the regular kid audience who sees Cardo as their idol, but seeing the result of the ratings, one can’t help but conclude that it was very insignificant to the point that it is unrecognizable meaning kids are still hooked with the long-running Kapamilya teleserye.
Faded Luster
While Marian continues to be Kapuso’s prime queen, and still commands following, it cannot be denied that her star has faded. Compared to her previous telefansya’s which rocked Philippine primetime TV, Rivera’s comeback to primetime as lead star failed to make great impact.
During her heydays she is undeniably on top of the game. Her “Darna” piloted at 44.1% in Mega Manila and even surpassed it by her “Dyesebel’s” 44.9%. But those were already history that wasn’t repeated with her latest.
“Super Maam” proved a fading luster on the former Marian Rivera’s bright star. But as they say, not every day is your day. It may be a bump on her television record but who knows Marian can recover in her future projects.
