Joey de Leon gets criticized for his depression statement on “Eat Bulaga.”

Maine Mendoza stressed out that depression is not a joke.
“Eat Bulaga!” host Joey de Leon was called out by netizens regarding his statement about depression on today’s episode of the longest-running noontime show.
During the segment of Juan for All , All For Juan, host Jose Manalo asked the sugod-bahay winner Maria Cristina about the condition of her mother. According to her, her mom had depression.
“Anong sakit ni nanay?” Jose asked the sugod-bahay winner.
The sugod-bahay winner aswered. “Depression po.”
“Bakit? iyang bang depression nakukuha ba iyan dahil depressed ka, ganun ba iyon?” Jose jokingly asked.
“Ang sabi lang po nung doktor, depression tapos yung katandaan cause makakalimutin na po,” she said.
Joey then entered the conversation, “Yung depression, gawa-gawa lang ng mga tao iyan. Gawa nila sa sarili nila.”
However, Maine Mendoza came to the defense, saying that depression is not a laughing matter.
“Hindi biro yang depression. Hindi siya joke. Hindi kasi maraming nakakaranas ng ganun lalo na sa mga kabataan. Kaya pag may nakakaranas ng ganun, kailangan natin bigyan natin ng suporta,” she said.
“Hindi, huwag n’yo suportahan. Gawa-gawa lang nila iyon,” the veteran comedian rebutted.
Joey’s statement about depression was bashed on online world. On the other hand, Maine was praised by her gestures and words to defend those who experienced depression.
Joey de Leon instantly became a hot trending topic on Twitter.
