GMA Network insisted there is no “fake news” from them.
GMA Network lashes back Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) Assistant Secretary Mocha Uson on her claims about mainstream media spreading “fake news” against her.
On Wednesday (October 4) afternoon, Uson claimed GMA News did not try to get her side over a news report criticizing her for supposedly taking a selfie inside a mosque while in Marawi City. According to Uson, GMA published fake news. She said she did not take a selfie and was merely documenting President Rodrigo Duterte’s trip to Marawi City at that time.
“Di ko alam kung sino ang source niyo… Papakita ko ang video at mapapahiya kayo sa sinasabi niyo,” Uson said.
GMA News Online editor-in-chief Jaemark Tordecilla said GMA had tried to get Uson’s side. The September 12 report, he explained, was based on the criticisms against Uson.
GMA Network released official statement on their website.
“It was clear in GMA News’ report that we were quoting ARMM Assemblyman Zia Alonto Adiong who criticized PCOO Asec Mocha Uson for entering a mosque in Marawi with her boots on and for taking a selfie inside.”
“GMA later carried Asec. Uson’s apology for not removing her shoes, her explanation that their entry to the mosque was unplanned as they were forced to do so when fighting intensified, and her denial that she took a selfie.”
GMA ended their statement assuring that there is no “fake news” from the network, “With all due respect to Asec. Uson, there is no fake news here. We in GMA News and Public Affairs hold ourselves to a high standard of accurate and factual reporting and we will continue to do so in the name of Serbisyong Totoo.
