Alden Richards shared earlier today via Twitter how his mom had to deal with mental illness.
“Eat Bulaga” host Joey de Leon’s lack of sensitivity over mental illness became a trending topic on Thursday (October 5). As the 70-year old comedian made his remarks on depression in yesterday’s episode of the longest-running noontime show.
“Yung depression, gawa-gawa lang ng mga tao iyan. Gawa nila sa sarili nila,” Joey said on a segment called “Juan for All, All for Juan.”
One of the hosts Jose Manalo, whose own daughter tried to commit suicide twice, also dismissed it and said that it was just made up by the doctors.
“Hindi biro yun ha, yung depression,” Maine stated after veteran comedian and TV host Joey de Leon said, “‘Yung depression gawa-gawa lang ng mga tao yan. Gawa nila sa sarili nila.”
“Kaya dapat kapag merong nakakaranas ng ganun bigyan natin ng suporta,” Maine further explained.
However, despite Maine’s stand to understand and respect those who suffered from depression, Joey maintained his side. “Huwag ninyong suportahan. Gawa-gawa lang nila yun pabayaan niyo,” he said.
Earlier today, Alden revealed on Twitter what his mother had to deal with a mental illness, in hopes of spreading awareness regarding the reality of mental health.
“My mom suffered from bipolar depression all her life when she had us. I know every single detail of it and how hard she suffered from it,” he said.
Netizens praised the “Phenomenal Loveteam” for voicing out for mental illness.
