The opening of the first ever Filipino-Japanese dessert shop in the Philippines coincide with the Philippine-Japanese friendship day last July.
With the combination of Japanese and Filipino desserts, your cravings will surely be satisfied with Kionchan’s three kiosks at Marquee Mall through a wide variety of crepes and parfaits. Kionchan is giving the Kapampangans a new flavor of sweets to enjoy with affordable price.
Kionchan’s menu has 21 flavorful choices that includes fruity Puchi Parfaits, wintry Kakigori, Matcha Ube, Matcha Mango, Mangga on crepes, Kinako Saba, and Halo-Go-Ri (Philippines’ famous halo-halo and Japan’s shaved ice).
The opening was spearheaded by Kionchan’s young Japanese entrepreneurs, chief executive officer Akiko Okamoto, general manager Kanako Takizawa and founder Hiroki Honma together with Philippines’ very own President John Cornelius and Vice President Consuelo Osorio-Coson.
The young entrepreneurs aim to open more branches in Metro Manila in the coming years and hopefully to bring these desserts to Japan.
Osorio-Coson shared the reason why they’ve decided to open their very first branch in Angeles City is because the management considers it as their second home in the country due to its rapid development. Another thing that made them decide is to overcome the discriminating taste of the Kapampangans.
According to Osorio-Coson, Kionchan’s menu mirrors the sweet, strong and long friendship of the Japanese and Filipino people.
“We really want to innovate and combine the two country’s flare for food. Just like our halo-halo Kakigori which is a perfect symbol of the long friendship of Japan and Philippines,” Coson said.
“We envision Kionchan to be an iconic dessert chain that serves Japanese-Filipino comfort food and to make it as one of the symbols of Japanese and Filipino friendship,” she added.
