- Television host Bianca Gonzalez aired her reaction towards Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II’s comments.
- The DOJ secretary blamed the media on hyping the death of Kian Loyd delos Santos.
During a press conference on Wednesday (August 23), Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II blamed the media for “blowing out of proportion” the death of 17-year-old Kian Loyd Delos Santos saying the slay was just one of the thousands of killings related to the administration’s war on drugs.
Kian was killed in a series of anti-drug operations in Metro Manila and Bulacan last week. The teenager died after he was shot during an Oplan Galugad operation at Barangay 160 in Caloocan.
“Blown out of proportion in the media [ito] kaya akala mo napakalaki na. Isa lang siya sa thousands na pang-aabuso ng pulis kung talagang may-pang aabuso,” he said.
The Justice secretary said that media’s treatment of Kian’s killing made it appear that it was “an exception to the rule.”
“With thousands of killings relative to legitimate operation parang lumalabas itong kay Kian was the only exception to the rule eh. Kasi napakarami ng nangyayaring killing na ganyan pero ang pang-aabuso ng pulis hindi napupruwebahan sa iba katulad ng dito kay Kian,” he added.
Meanwhile, television host Bianca Gonzalez aired her reaction towards Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II’s statements.
According to Bianca, the loss of human life should never be downplayed. On Twitter, she asked, “’Akala mo napakalaki’ is not something anyone should say about someone KILLED. Eh kung anak, magulang, kapatid mo yun? Hindi malaking bagay?”
She followed it up by saying that the death of any person, whether he is innocent or a criminal, always matters. She added, “The killing of anyone is a big deal. Kasi buhay ng tao yun.”
Though she disagree with the DOJ Secretary, Bianca praised the stand of Malacanan Palace, “To be perfectly fair. The Palace is with us that this is a serious matter. 🙏”
Her posts drew mixed reactions. Some netizens agreed with her while others bashed the Kapamilya host.
