Wherever they may be, Filipinos can watch, listen, and take part in the second State of the Nation Address (SONA) of Philippine president Rodrigo Duterte on Monday (July 24) through ABS-CBN News’ extensive and immersive special news coverage dubbed “Pangakong Pagbabago: SONA 2017.”
Apart from the usual live reports, updates, and interviews over ABS-CBN’s radio, TV, cable, and digital platforms, the country’s largest news organization is adding a few layers to its coverage to give Filipinos a fuller experience of the President’s report on his administration’s achievements and plans for the nation.
Online, there will be a special SONA 2017 microsite on ABS-CBN News Online (news.abs-cbn.com/sona2017) that will not just house all special reports and stories related to the SONA but also offer livestreaming of the SONA coverage on ABS-CBN, ANC and DZMM, giving netizens the freedom to choose which one to watch.
Moreover, it will introduce the Digital TV concept, where netizens can view a special programming of live reports from ABS-CBN journalists, who will be using their mobile phones to gather and send their stories. A collaboration of ABS-CBN News’ broadcast and digital teams, the Digital TV promises to take viewers right in the middle of action, whether it be in a protest rally, inside the Batasang Pambansa complex, or from another point in the nation.
On cable, ANC will also be giving a louder voice to the people through a townhall forum as part of its “State of the Nation: Pangakong Pagbabago” special coverage. Moderated by Karmina Constantino and Tony Velasquez, the forum gives representatives from different sectors in society the chance to speak about their expectations on the government as well as give their reactions to the President’s report.
On radio, DZMM Radyo Patrol 630’s coverage will begin at 1pm with Karen Davila and Johnson Manabat, and will continue with David Oro and Ricky Rosales at 3pm and Gerry Baja and Anthony Taberna at 5pm. The coverage, which will include real-time reports from Radyo Patrol reporters deployed in key areas, will be simulcast on DZMM TeleRadyo on cable and ABS-CBN TVplus. There will also be guest analysts who will explain the issues related to the SONA.
Davila will also anchor the ABS-CBN coverage at 3:30pm after “It’s Showtime.” It will air the full SONA live, with reports on expectations and protests before the address; and reactions and analysis after the speech.
Combining the most comprehensive news coverage with an innovation, and a forum that highlights the voices of different Filipinos, ABS-CBN News hopes to inform and engage the public in one of the most significant days for the entire nation in 2017.
Take part in this year’s SONA through ABS-CBN News’ “Pangakong Pagbabago” special news coverage on radio via DZMM Radyo Patrol 630, on TV via ABS-CBN ch.2 and S+A, on cable via ANC, on digital TV via DZMM TeleRadyo, and online via iWant TV and news.abs-cbn.com/sona2017.
