- President Duterte lauds Ted Failon’s documentary which discussed the effects of mining.
- President Duterte in his State of the Nation address praised the veteran journalist on his report on mining and said he even watched it twice.
In his 2017 State of the Nation Address (SONA) Monday, July 24, 2014, President Rodrigo Duterte lauds Ted Failon and his report on the effects of mining in the countryside.
During his speech, he called on Congress for the passage of the National Land Use Act which involved mining.
From there, Presidente Duterte praised Ted Failon and his ABS-CBN team for shedding light on the damage the mining industries have done to the country.
“Not only Gina Lopez gave a clear picture of what was happening horrendously. Nakita mo yung kay Ted [Failon], yung kay Ted [Failon] talagang nanood ako dalawang beses and I realized that I have to do something as a Filipino”, President Duterte said.
President Duterte was referring to ABS-CBN documentary “Pamana ng Mina” hosted by Ted Failon.
The documentary which was aired in full last July 9, 2017 tackled the bad effects of mining and the devastation it has caused the communities surrounding the mining areas.
In his SONA, President Duterte said he likes what ABS-CBN has done this time. And he praised Ted Failon for doing it because it showed the reality of mining in the country.
“For once they behave correctly, ang ABS-CBN. Tignan mo yung [pinikula] ni Ted Failon. I salute him for coming with it,” said President Duterte.
It was not the first time that the President mentioned Failon and his documentary. Last July 21, 2017, in a speech in Davao City, the President also mentioned Failon and his report on effects of mining.
