The Philippine collegiate basketball season officially opens with a showdown between defending champion San Beda College and host school San Sebastian College-Recoletos in the opening day of the 93rd NCAA men’s basketball tournament this Saturday (July 8) at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
The Red Lions open their title-retention bid against the Stags LIVE on S+A and S+A HD, and via livestreaming at sports.abs-cbn.com at 2pm, followed by the Mapua Cardinals and Season 92 runner-up Arellano University Chiefs at 4pm. Before the games, there will also be a grand opening ceremony at 12nn to jumpstart the season with the theme “NCAA Strong @ Season 93.”
University of Perpetual Help System Dalta Altas, College of Saint Benilde Blazers, Jose Rizal University Heavy Bombers, Lyceum of the Philippines University Pirates, Colegio de San Juan de Letran Knights, and Emilio Aguinaldo College Generals will also see action in the next days.
This year promises to showcase the grit, determination, and sacrifice of NCAA’s community of student-athletes, and ignite school spirit further by bringing the action to the campuses via “NCAA On-Tour.”
The “NCAA on Tour” will give teams the chance to play in their home courts on Thursdays starting with the Arellano-San Sebastian tiff slated on July 13. Students who have ran out of seats inside their respective gyms will be able to catch the games via a LED screen installation outside. To make things more festive, the “NCAA on Tour” will also be bringing in local school celebrities as well as Star Music talents and Myx VJs to liven up the game day experience.
This is the third season of the country’s oldest collegiate league since it signed a 10-year partnership with ABS-CBN, the Philippines’ leading media and entertainment company. Fans of the league can expect an exciting coverage with the NCAA panel composed of Anton Roxas, Andrei Felix, and Martin Javier, analysts Migs Bustos, Martin Antonio, Mikee Reyes, Renren Ritualo, and Olsen Racela, and courtside reporters Ceej Tantengco, Sarah Carlos, Roxanne Montealegre, and Myrtle Sarrosa.
ABS-CBN Sports will also deliver inspiring and amusing stories about the people within the NCAA community that will be aired during halftime of the games.
