- The film called “Kita Kita” starring Empoy and Alessandra de Rossi was supposedly made meant for last year’s Metro Manila Film Festival. But for whatever reason, movie producer Piolo Pascual decided to pull it out on the last minute.
- Even if they had already paid for the film’s registration, Piolo said he had no regrets for pulling it out from the official entries. He felt the film was still half-baked back then. He wanted it improve it more.
- There were deadlines the film had to comply with. And since there were changes in the MMFF rules, Piolo together with his partners from the Spring Films decided not to join the MMFF.
Piolo Pascual’s latest produced film, “Kita Kita,” was originally meant for last year’s MMFF. But due to some unavoidable circumstances, they’ve decided to pull it off from the official entries.
Pascual felt his film wasn’t ready for showing yet at the time. He admitted they tried to beat the deadlines and comply to the mechanics but he simply didn’t want to submit a film when it’s half-baked. Thus, he and his partners decided to hold the film and not to risk the movie.
“Inayos namin muna ‘yung mga ilang eksena sa pelikula na alam namin na makakadagdag sa ganda nito. It think it’s a good decision rather than risk the entire movie. So far, no regrets naman kami for not pushing through with MMFF last year,” said Piolo to PEP.
Piolo and company are very proud of their latest venture, “Kita Kita.”
“It’s an unlikely combination or partnership between Alessandra de Rossi and Empoy. Fresh ‘yung chemistry nung dalawa,” said Piolo. The Kapamilya actor also said that he’s not afraid to try something new when it comes to producing films. “I’m such a risk-taker. Once I believe in the project, whatever it takes, I’m gonna be all for it!”
So regardless of the outcome, for as long as he had given his best and he believed in the concept, he’s fine with it. And contrary to some issues, Piolo debunks the issue that his moves are not earning money. “Meron naman kaming ways on how to earn money. But hindi kasi ‘yun ang only goal for making a film,” Piolo reasons out. In this industry, he believes that it’s his responsibility to create films that are world-class and can be comparable to the standards of international films. ‘We’re here to create films, to educate and entertain people.”
Piolo says proudly that he and his partners from Spring Films, Direk Joyce Bernal and Erickson Raymundo, creating movies out of the box concept are their contribution in the movie and entertainment industry. “Kapag kasi masyadong commercialized yung film mo, limitado ‘yung pwede mong gawin.”
On the issue about the MMFF controversy, Piolo said that he’s got nothing against commercial films. But they should be quality ones and be given the freedom to come up with different concepts. “Lahat naman ng films produced, sumusugal ka. Ang goal mo lang is magpasaya ng mga manonood. And you can only do these if you give your viewers good quality films.“
“Kita-kita” is a romantic comedy film under the direction of Sigrid Andrea Bernadro. It had its world premiere at the Osaka International Film Festival last March.
