Two years ago, the entire Philippines was under the spell of Alden Richards and Maine Mendoza. It does not matter whether they are good in acting or not. Filipino wants to feel the kilig. That’s all!
But now, their pabebe wave has no effect to majority of Filipinos at all! Pinoy viewers want to see more precise and rigorous acting skills from the actors.
In this column, we will discuss the actors that charmed the Pinoy audience and how a certain love team like AlDub failed to beat them.
Uprising
ABS-CBN introduced Heart Ramos as its newest child star through the hit primetime series “My Dear Heart”.
Heart proved that she’s the most-talked-about child star in the first half of 2017 as her debut soap enjoyed its six-month run on television.
Heart, along with Dra. Margaret, gave AlDub a series of heart attacks when the love team’s debut teleserye, “Destined to Be Yours”, failed to win against the comatosed child.
Then, from June 12 to June 17, during the show’s final week, Heart Ramos and the rest of the cast effortlessly trashed “My Love from the Star”, a debut series by Jennylyn Mercado and Gil Cuerva as a love team.
PARTIDA: Heart had been comatose since the second week of her show.
After she regained her consciousness, Heart made sure that the rival network would weep as the child star buried “My Love from the Star” six feet under in the ratings game.
The young child actress then passed her power to crush a rival show to her fellow child wonder Justin James Quilantang. This littley boy plays the role of the young Tristan in “La Luna Sangre” — another Kapamilya series that has shattered “My Love from the Star” on primetime.
Like Heart, netizens were curious about how this newbie child actor would make the much-awaited teleserye interesting. Justin has instantly won the hearts of Filipino viewers in just a snap of fingers as he showed his superbly stunning acting skills in the pilot episode of “La Luna Sangre”.
The child actor captivated the audience. In fact, the topic “Little Tristan,” along with “Little Malia,” trended on Twitter Philippines. Even celebrity like Vice Ganda expressed his admiration to Little Tristan.
Justin is also set to showcase his acting skills in “Maalaala Mo Kaya” this Saturday for its Fathers’ Day special. He will be playing the son of the tricycle driver named George Belarmino — a great start for a newbie actor like Justin!
The falling stars
Meanwhile, Kantar Media and AGB Nielsen agreed that the cast of “My Love from the Star” has no match against Heart and Little Tristan.
For example, the Kapuso network finally aired the kissing scene of Steffi Chavez and Matteo Domingo on June 13; but it seemed like the supposed momentous scene showed no effect in the eyes of their audience. The kissing scene, got a pitiful 8.4% of rating compared to “My Dear Heart’s” 8.7% based on AGB Nielsen’s NUTAM People Ratings and 15.5% against rival’s 26.3% according to Kantar Media.
Is it because the love team has no chemistry at all? Or is it because the story is too predictable? Well, for me, Jennylyn and Gil have yet to offer more exciting scenes to defend the leadership they once had in AGB NUTAM ratings.
