Veteran actress and book author Rita Avila recently surprised netizens when she shared stunning photos of herself in a two-piece bikini. Just like fellow actress Alice Dixson, Rita was able to maintain her shapely body despite her age.
But there was one hurtful comment from a netizen that made her upset. The netizen wrote: “Having a sexy body in exchange of having a child…Just saying.”
Rita replied: “Hmmm…no connection really. I had the most painful experience of losing a child. Now, I am simply taking care of myself in my old age. You are mean thinking that way, I am old and I just want to be strong.”
Rita has experienced tragic loss when her son Ellia Jesu died of a heart ailment less than a month after he was born into this world. Turning her tragedy into something beautiful, Rita used her talent in writing to help her cope up. She was able to write “8 Ways to Comfort with Grace” which deals with facing adversity in the face of brokenness. She also wrote books for children such as Si Erik Tutpik at Si Ana Taba.
Rita says her fitness was the result of a “healthy diet” and exercise, which includes “pilates, jumping, and aqua zumba,” and not a product of any cosmetic surgery or because she hasn’t been able to have children.
In fact, the actress encourages others to be healthy at any given age. “You can be strong and healthy even if you’re in your 50’s. There are gymnasts in their 70’s. Sprinters in their 90’s, get going.”
“Do not let your joints ‘get rusty’ by not doing exercises. Never starve yourself. Eat properly,” the actress wrote. “Laugh. Play. Be a child. Be kind.”
“It’s so sad that there are people who would always find what is wrong,” she says. “I am an old woman who takes care of m body not to be sexually desired but to be strong for my age,” declares Rita.
She also mentioned in one of her captions that people have to be “better and kinder” amidst human flaws. For online bashers, she also recommended to “make their souls cleaner.”
A devout Catholic, the actress wrote in verbatim: “Your hurting words because of envy, ignorance & evilness will always cut you deeper wounds. I pray that you get healed and be loved. No one is perfect in this world. Lahat ay may kapintasan. But it should not stop us from making ourselves better and kinder.”
