- They’ve been married for four years now and everyone’s expecting them to have a little bundle of joy by this time. Yet, celebrity couples Maricar Reyes and Richard Poon prefers to take their own sweet time.
- Richard reveals they’re working on it [having a baby] but they don’t want to put pressure on them . “If it comes, it comes” had been Richard’s mantra.
- The couple are both health conscious and are bonding over treadmill exercises and watching movies.
Celebrity crooner Richard Poon and his wife, actress Maricar Reyes have just celebrated their fourth wedding anniversary recently.
According to Richard, they just had a very simple celebration. “We just had a simple dinner with those that are really close to us like our family and friends, plus ninongs and ninangs and those we consider as mentors. Kasi ganun ako eh, gusto ko very intimate lang,” explains Richard.
Just like celebrity couple Ryan Agoncillo and Judy Ann Santos, Maricar and Richard’s favourite bonding time would be exercising at home together.
“It’s really very hard. I’ve gained a little bit nga pero we have a treadmill at home para kesa lumabas pa kami, sa bahay na kami together. Kasi kung aalis ka pa papunta ng gym, traffic pa lang, parking then babalik ka sa bahay—pagod ka na. So we decided to invest in a really good treadmill. We do exercise mga four to five times a week sa treadmill and we work out ng mga one hour and a half. Alternate kami, pag ako yung nasa treadmill, may crossfit exercises siya. During downtimes, we also enjoy watching movies together,” reveals Richard.
When they’re out of the limelight, they keep themselves busy by being hands-on with their business. Two years ago, Maricar started a chocolate cake business. Richard said he’s happy that his wife discovered her true passion. “Ako kasi, I finished business pero ang ending ko sa music. Siya [Maricar] naman medicine and then passion niya is negosyo. So when I married her I made sure kasi yung family ko is very traditional Chinese. When I married her, I’ve observed her well kung saan sya masaya. And I’ve found out, she’s happier with doing business,” beams Richard.
People might say, ‘Sayang naman yung eight years mo sa medicine.’ But I’m more after my wife’s happiness,” adds Richard. So he allows his wife to do what she does best—baking.
He admitted he was skeptical at first when Maricar told him she wanted to start a baking business. He wasn’t into baking as much as Maricar. “I’m not into cakes or sweets. Chef ako eh. Mr. Poon is 40 years na na restaurant ng Dad ko. Kinontra ko siya nung umpisa. Pero nakita ko yung mga stars sa mga mata nya eh. Baking brings her joy. So sabi ko, sige i-try nya. And the rest, as they say is history.”
Richard said he and Maricar are simply enjoying married life. Both had their own respective careers. They don’t want to feel pressured about having a baby. Although the 43-year-old singer admitted that they are already working on it.
“Before we got married, sabi namin, we’d like to enjoy each other’s company first for the first two years of our marriage. Ngayon, mag-four na kami so nagta-try kami because we’d want to start a family soon. Pero we realized, when it comes, it comes. Relax lang, chill lang kami about it.”
