- He says he isn’t bothered at all when people say he’s too good looking to be playing Goryo in the said biopic.
- He’s both excited and nervous because this is the first time he will be playing the solo lead in a film.
Actor Paulo Avelino finally gets what’s probably his biggest break in showbiz via playing the lead role in Gregorio Del Pilar biopic, “Goyo: Ang Batang Heneral”.
It was announced two years ago that he will be playing the title role in the Del Pilar biography film. But Paulo’s relieved that they will finally start shooting this month of June.
Paulo confessed that he’s excited but at the same time nervous to play Goyong in this another historical film. “Actually we’ve been preparing for this for quite a long time so I’m happy that we’ve finally started shooting,” says Paulo.
The actor reveals he’s able to relate well with his role as Goyong, the youngest Filipino general who died in a battle at the age of 24.
“The part of him that I could relate to is he was carrying a very big burden at a very young age and I kind of could relate to that in a lot of ways. I also learned some things about him that surprised me. That he was once hit by a bullet in the head one time, he was grazed by a bullet during one of his campaigns,” related Paulo.
People say he’s too good looking to play the said role of the young general. Paulo simply shrugs it off. He says everybody’s entitled to their own opinion. He’s not bothered at all because it’s a non-issue. “Well, hindi naman siguro too pogi to play the part. Gregorio Del Pilar was actually known to be good looking, may joke nga na may nagiging girlfriend siya in every town that he goes to. There are actually letters na marami talaga siyang naging girls,” justifies the former Starstruck alumna.
Does he also have the same dilemma with girls? “Hindi naman. I’m very loyal,” he laughs.
The actor believes he’s got what it takes to be Goyong on the silver screen. Paulo’s also happy to be reunited with his director, Jerrold Tarrog who also megged the phenomenal block buster and award-winning film Heneral Luna.
“It’s always a treat to work with direk Jerrold Tarog. This guy is just some crazy person who likes making films and surprising everyone with what he has in store and what he wants to show. He’s also very creative and artistic. A unique thing about direk Jerrold, he allows and give his actors freedom to work around their given roles.”
