ABS-CBN’s fangs are still sharp as its latest fantaserye “La Luna Sangre” bites hard to the top.
On Monday, June 19, 2017, ABS-CBN premiered one of its strongest brands, the sequel to hit fantaseryes “Lobo” and “Imortal”; “La Luna Sangre”.
A continuation of the Vampire-Werewolves drama, “La Luna Sangre” promised to not only replicate its predecessors’ success but possibly overtake it as it offers its story to the younger millennials.
And indeed, the long wait for the sequel was definitely worth it as “La Luna Sangre’s” pilot skyrocketed to the top leaving its competition bloodied and seemingly lifeless.
From AGB Nielsen’s NUTAM People data, “La Luna Sangre” slayed its rival “My Love From the Star” winning all episodes from the pilot week.
Kantar Media, on the other hand, showed a more compelling data, with “La Luna Sangre” massacring “My Love From Tha Star.”
The Kapuso’s Koreanovela adoption, “My Love From The Star” didn’t manage to even reach 16% ratings compared to “La Luna Sangre’s” average of 34.1%.
But not only did “La Luna Sangre” slaughtered its Kapuso rival, it also bested fellow Kapamilya to earn the primetime crown.
“La Luna Sangre” on its 1st 3 episodes overtakes fellow Kapamilya “FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano” to be the most-watched primetime series from Monday, June 19 to Wednesday, June 21 according to AGB Nielsen NUTAM People survey.
Meanwhile, their scores were not far from each other as “La Luna Sangre” threatens to dislodge “FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano’s” primetime leadership in Kantar Media survey.
By far, this latest installment from the ABS-CBN’s vampire-werewolves concept is the best in terms of viewership as it landed longer on top compared to “Lobo” which piloted on January 2008 at number 6 with 27.7% (AGB Nielsen Mega Manila) and “Imortal” which piloted at number 1 on October 4, 2010 with 15.1% (AGB Nielsen People ratings) and 34.4% (Kantar Media) but slide down to number 2 on its succeeding days.
The Angel Locsin-John Lloyd Cruz star power
“La Luna Sangre’s” pilot can be attributed also to the star power of two of its most important characters, John Lloyd who played the vampire Mateo and Angel Locsin, the powerful she-wolf Lia.
The two who topbilled the fantaserye’s predecessor “Imortal”, were able to carry over its loyal viewers to their latest story in “La Luna Sangre”. “Imortal” which also premiered at number 1 versus GMA Network’s “Grazilda” in 2010 was powerful enough to make their viewers wait longer for its sequel. And with this two, bannering the pilot week as KathNiel have yet to make their appearance in the story proved that thetandemm of John Lloyd and Angel still commands great following.
GMA Network’s dwindling viewership
Aside from being a strong brand, “La Luna Sangre’s” success can also be attributed from the dwindling viewership of its rival network.
With GMA network’s teledramas and telefantasyas not making strong impact, ABS-CBN’s “La Luna Sangre” came in at the right time to magnet those former Kapuso viewers to try out the dish offered from the other side of the fence.
Taking off from the the not so warmly received “Encantadia”, and the damaged wings of “Mulawin vs Ravena”, “La Luna Sangre” came out as the sizzling spicy menu from the television’s program buffet.
And that is evident by how its writer and creative consultant Suzette Doctolero and Director Mark Reyes threw shade with “La Luna Sangre’s” title. The two GMA employees claimed Sangre as their original concept from their epic fantaserye Encantadia. During the pilot week, these two along with other unkown talents from that network create controversy from the soundex words Sangre and Sang’gre which turned out to be two different things.
With GMA executives riding the buzz created by “La Luna Sangre’s” pilot week, it will be needless to say how effective and how strong this newest Kapamilya fantaserye is.
And with its main characters not yet seen on its current episodes, expect a more bloody competition between “La Luna Sangre” and rival when Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla come out on screen because the power of KathNiel has been proven to draw huge following.
