Sometimes no matter how good your intentions are, people will always have something against you. People will always try to put you down, would always criticize and wants a piece of you. That’s exactly what happened recently with Kapamilya actress Angel Locsin.
The kind-hearted actress recently reached out to help the people in Marawi City by giving them a visit out of her own initiative yet her detractors still bashed her for such a noble act.
Angel’s visit to the evacuation centers in Marawi City and Balo-I, Lanao del Norte was a top secret where the actress volunteered during the relief operations of Rural Missionaries of the Philippines (RMP), the people however, were still able to recognize her.
Angel wanted to know the real condition of the people in those affected areas so she really went out of her way to personally visit them during the said relief operations. But soon, her act of kindness immediately reached the social media where photos of her were being intrigued and given other meaning.
Some would say it’s the actress’ way of getting the public’s attention. “Bakit kailangan pa na i-publicize ang kanyang ginagawa sa Marawi evacuees?,” a netizen said in the vernacular.
Angel’s legions of fans also came to the actress’ defense.
A fan wrote on Facebook, “She wanted to remain anonymous, but how can this event be kept as a secret if she, herself, Ms. Angel Locsin wants to personally distribute the goods to the evacuees staying at Maahad Abdul Hamid (an evacuation center) at Balo-I, Lanao del Norte. It was indeed a blessed Jum’ah! May Allah subhanu wa ta’ala grant the desires of her heart. She always have a heart for us, muslims. MashaAllah!”
This isn’t the first time that the actress has reached out to help others. She had always been one of the first to respond to calamity-stricken areas. She even went to Eastern Visayas after the time of Yolanda and she also personally joined the relief operations.
Volunteerism is something that’s been in her since she’s also an ambassador of the Philippine Red Cross, hence, she chose her Twitter handle as redangel143. [For Red Cross 143 volunteer]
Her rumored current boyfriend, producer Neil Arce of N2 Productions also defended Angel from her bashers.
Niel wrote: “I just read someone’s post her na ang sabi, ‘When you do charity, do it quietly.’ Saw the comments section as well. Ang dami nilang alam. The person you are talking about went to the most dangerous area in the Philippines unannounced and without bodyguards or even government supervision.”
“She [Angel] risked her own life to help our countrymen. Media picked it up on her 2nd day there. Hindi po ion ipinatawag or hindi pinlano. She spent her own money and wanted to do it as quietly as possible.”
Neil added: “What have you done to help? What have you done to inspire people to help? Pati ‘yung mga nagco-comment puro press pa kayo. Bring it on. Sulat nyo na ko ng masama, wala akong paki.”
Even Department of Social Welfare and Development [DSWD] Secretary Judy Taguiwalo lauded and thanked Angel via Twitter.
She wrote: ‘Thank you, Ms. Angel Locsin for calling attention to the plight of Marawi evacuees. We hop more Filipino youth emulate women like Ms. Angel Locsin who speaks and stands for others. None of us can be like Darna and fly to rescue people. But we can be like Ms. Angel Locsin and care for those in need like the Marawi evacuees.”
