GMA Network vs. ABS-CBN: The Debate on Sang’gre, Sangre

GMA Network headwriter Suzette Doctolero recently made a tweet on her social media account where she wrote that there are ‘posers’ and said that the Sang’gre sisters ‘texted’ her saying that they aren’t into Twitter. This was Doctolero’s reaction after reading a tweet about ABS-CBN’s La Luna Sangre’s Twitter post which said: “Mga Sang’gre’s tweet lang ng tweet.”

GMA Execs Got Burned

The word ‘Sang’gre’ was first used in the local entertainment scene in 2005 when GMA Network as the enchanted term used to refer a Diwata [fairy] of a royal blood, and who as such also possesses special powers and destinies above those of a common Diwata. Sang’gre was also used as a title or honor for such Diwata as royalty, who are addresses as ‘Sang’gre’ before their names. The term was used to refer fictitious characters of  Diwata with royal bloods such as Sang’gre Amihan, Dayana, Alena, Pirena originally played.

There seems to be an argument between fans of the two giant networks, GMA Network and ABS-CBN over the word ‘Sang’gre.’

In case you don’t know, the terminology Sangre is Latin word for blood.

But for Kapuso fans especially the followers of “Encantadia,” when one mentions the word Sang’gre, the first thing that comes to mind of a TV viewing Filipino would be the four sisters who hold the four jewels from the GMA Network’s telefantasya, both in 2006 and in the recently concluded 2016 remake of the said fantasy TV show.

The brains behind the “Encantadia,” director Mark Reyes and headwriter Suzette Doctolero claims that they were the first ones who used the ‘Sang’gre’ word that had made it a household word in every Filipino home.

With ABS-CBN’s latest fantasy TV program called “La Luna Sangre” [Blood Moon] which features the tandem of Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla, it now creates an issue between the rival network as well as its legions of fans.

Meanwhile, GMA director Mark Reyes also posted on his social media the poster of Encantadia with the words: “Sang’gre since 2006 Huwag nga kayo!” using the caption “Excuse us! #wewerefirstduh #encantadia #encatadialegacy.”
