- The success of “Wonder Woman” has brought pressure to the director of the much-awaited “Darna”, Erik Matti.
- The director admitted he thought that “Darna” would come along before “Wonder Woman”.
- Now, direk Erik has been thinking on how to make “Darna” a more uniquely Filipino film.
- He also expressed his approval for Liza Soberano as the Darna due to actress’ versatility in acting.
Before Darna, there was Wonder Woman, a fictional superhero appearing in American comic books published by DC Comics in 1940s.
And just like “Darna”, the foreign superhero has been recreated in various forms of masterpieces such as comics, television series, and films.
This year, beauty queen turned actress Gal Gadot played the iconic character of Wonder Woman that made her one of the most famous celebrities in the world. Her film of the same name has also grossed $517 million in the box-office worldwide, making it the 7th highest-grossing film of 2017.
Thus, for the very first time, the fearless award-winning director Erik Matti admitted that he is pressured over the success of “Wonder Woman”. Direk Erik will be directing the modern movie version of “Darna”, starring actress Liza Soberano.
He confessed, “Ang laki ng pressure talaga, because we thought all along that we would be coming out before Wonder Woman.
“But now that Wonder Woman is out and we’re just about to start Darna, of course we’re trying very hard to… hindi naman iparehas but at the same time to come up with something really uniquely Filipino na superhero. I think ‘yun ang hinahanap namin na balance.”
According to the director, the team has been intensively preparing to make this Liza Soberano-led film different from the older versions of “Darna”. He so expressed his excitement because he believes that Liza is indeed the perfect one to don the red-and-white costume.
“Liza is just perfect, fresh. She’s good pick because ang features niya talaga… she could be very sweet, very innocent, at the same time, she could be fiery, brave… parang puwede siyang mag-represent ng babaeng Pilipino,” said direk Erik.
Liza is currently on training for the epic film since it would be her biggest and the most iconic project of her career since she signed contract with Star Magic.
Additionally, the director revealed that his team is working on various types of Liza’s costume for the film as they wanted it to be as fitting to the Kapamilya star.
He elaborated, “We’ll probably work on maybe 15 types of costumes for Darna, and of course we’re trying to come up now with the design that’s really fitting of Liza.
“We’re trying to bring Darna to the modern contemporary setting and we want Darna to be progressive para hindi siya costume lang, kundi gusto rin namin na functional ‘yung costume na hindi lang siya pampaganda sa kanya kundi may silbi siya as superhero.”
Moreover, direk Matti refused to reveal the shooting date for “Darna” and the additional cast that will make the film more astounding.
