- Since everyone must’ve been too excited with the ongoing ‘Darna-fever,’ Veteran actress Celia Rodriguez was recently in the news because she’s known for her iconic performance as Valentina in the nth remake of the legendary superhero by Mars Ravelo.
- She spoke about her thoughts on “Darna” and on portraying the half-human, half serpent villain for years.
- Rodriguez is one of the best Filipina antagonists in the local movies.
- She has done two “Darna” movies to date, first was in “Lipad, Darna, Lipad” (1972) with no less than The Star of All Seasons and Batangas Rep. Vilma Santos and a trilogy on “Darn”a (Darna at ang Babaing Lawin, Darna at ang Impakta and Darna at si Valentina) megged by directors Joey Gosiengfiao, Elwood Perez and Maning Borlaza respectively.
Icon Celia Rodriguez proclaimed that in her opinion, Angel Locsin is the best “Darna” ever. The contravida de primera believes that Angel is perfect for the role.
She may not exactly ring a bell especially for the millenials but she’s a great antagonist in local films. She has remained active in showbiz despite her age. She describes herself as the “last of my breed.” She’s best remembered for her effective portrayal of Valentina in the past “Darna” films.
Rodriguez recalled how Director Elwood Perez came about with her character Maharani Valentina Vranda Kapor.
“Only somebody like Elwood could have invented such name,” quipped Celia who reprised the same role named Bragoda later in GMA Network’s “Darna” classic with Angel Locsin.
Celia was all-praises for Angel Locsin whom she considers as “the best Darna ever!” “Angel is the best Darna, bar none,” said Celia. “She was perfect for the role. She had the figure for it. She was fearless. She refused to have a double even when portions of her body were badly hurt by the harness.
Hmm..Wouldn’t that add more pressure for Liza Soberano as the new “Darna?”
Well, let’s just wait and see if Liza can top what Angel had shown Celia when “Darna” flies again soon via Star Cinema’s own remake of the Filipino legendary superhero.
