Alyanna Martinez confirms the death of her Lolo, veteran actor Romeo “Booby” Vasquez on her Instagram account last May 3 on a series of photos. She said that he died on May 2.
According to Alyanna, her Lolo Bobby is now reunited with her mother Liezl in heaven. “I love you [Lolo Bobby], she said on her first post. “Say hi to Mama for me. Why are the good ones always gone too soon?”
“Reunited now in heaven with Mama on her 32nd wedding anniversary #LoloBobby,” Alyanna wrote in another post.
Vasquez was married to former Sampaguita pictures’ leading lady [also known as Elizabeth Taylor of the Philippines] Amalia Fuentes, mother of former actress Liezl Sumilang [who was married to actor Albert Martinez].
A former matinee idol of Philippine Cinema, Vasquez was known for his films including “Pretty Boy (1957),” “Ako Ang Maysala (1958),” “Sapagkat Ikaw Ay Akin (1965)” and “Maruja (1967)”.
He was also known as one of the leading men of Star for All Seasons Vilma Santos. In 1994, he portrayed the role of Lauro Vizconde in the Vizconde Massacre movie.
Likewise, Alyanna’s father, actor Albert Martinez also posted a photo of him and Vasquez whom he described as his “best friend.”
“My Father-in-law. My best friend ..you will be missed #romeovasquez,” Martinez wrote. “Gone to soon.”
Albert is the husband of the late actress Liezl Martinez (nee Sumilang), daughter of Vasquez.
Vasquez was married to former leading lady Amalia Fuentes, mother of Liezl.
