- It’s quite amazing to find out that JK Labajo delved into acting without having to undergo any acting workshop.
- He was originally interested in singing alone but decided to give acting a try.
- JK was surprised when he found out how people hated his character Lucas in “A Love To Last.”
JK Labajo can be considered as an ‘accidental actor.’ He originally wanted to become a singer.
In fact, he started out in The Voice Kids Season 1 where he finished in third place. After his stint on the drama anthology Maalaala Mo Kaya [MMK] playing himself on his life story, people noticed his acting prowess. Soon thereafter, he was cast in roles and his acting career began.
Now, he’s seen effectively portraying the role of Lucas in “A Love To Last.”
Unlike other actors, JK never had to undergo an acting workshop. “Hindi po ako nag-acting workshop,” he revealed.
Prior to his playing the rebellious son of Anton [Ian Veneracion] and Grace [Iza Calzado] in “A Love To Last,” JK was first part of the cast of Hawak Kamay. He used to be paired with Andrea Brillantes in Hawak Kamay.
“I had no idea what to do. Sabi nila, ‘JK, may acting ka ha.” I asked ‘Ano pong mangyayari?’ ‘Hindi, basahin mo lang yung script.’ I never knew anything. Kumbaga, the management just said, ‘O, subukan natin si JK. Ipa-try natin ang acting kaysa naman palagi siyang mag-focus sa singing.”
He finds playing Lucas as very challenging.
“Malayo po siya sa kung ano ‘yung personality ko in real life. I’m a happy-go-lucky kid. I’m very positive in real life. Si Lucas kasi problematic child. Hindi naman pos a nahihirapan ako pero medyo nag-adjust po ako.”
So effective was JK’s portrayal of Lucas that he gets bashed on social media. It’s okay for him and he understands why people ‘hate’ him. It only means that he’s real good playing his role and that people did noticed his acting ability.
“Nalaman ko lang po na bina-bash ako. Yes, I am aware. Medyo hindi ko na po napapanood ang A Love To Last kasi hand-to-mouth na kami so wala na ko akong time na manood. Nakikibalita na lang kami. Madaming galit kay Lucas to the point na nung nabangga siya, ang daming natuwa.”
