In the midst of controversy surrounding Senator Vicente “Tito” Sotto III, single moms find their comfort through the support of some local celebrities.
Tito, who inconsiderately pokes fun at DSWD Sec Judy Taguiwalo’s status as a single mom, was criticized by netizens.
But instead of criticizing the senator, celebrities professionally took to Twitter to commend every single moms who felt offended by Tito’s ‘na-ano’ remark.
“The Voice Teens” coach Lea Salonga recalled her experiences with her mom. She wrote, “For much of my growing-up years, my mother was a single mother. I curse anyone and everyone that sees women like her as ‘less than.’
“My husband was, for as much of his upbringing, raised by a single mother. I curse anyone that sees women like her as ‘less than.’
“For those that look down upon these beloved ladies, there’s a special place in hell for the likes of you.”
Kapamilya comedienne Pokwas joined in and tweeted, “Sa lahat ng single mom sa buong mundo, mabuhay tayong lahat! Yahoo… God bless us all!”
Also, the Kapuso actress and “Legally Blind” star Janine Gutierrez expressed her respect to all the single moms. She wrote, “My respect to all the single mothers who take on the immense responsibility of successfully raising children on their own.”
Additionally, TV host Bianca Gonzalez tweeted, “Mabuhay ang mga solo parents, iba ang lakas at katatagan ninyo.”
Even director Antonette Jadaone expressed her disappointment over the senator and wrote, “Hay, Tito Sotto. God bless the women of the Philippines – na-ano or otherwise!”
Meanwhile, some netizens brought up the involvement of Tito to Pepsi Paloma rape case; thus the keyword “Pepsi” trended on Twitter Philippines.
