- Duterte supporters threaten director Erik Matti to boycott his upcoming film, especially “Darna”.
- The uproar started when direk Erik cursed through his Twitter account that is believed to be in connection to Duterte supporters.
- A Facebook page titled DuterteSerye started the campaign appealing to its followers to avoid watching “Darna”.
- The supporters of the president, however, stressed that the boycott has nothing to do with Liza Soberano — the rumored actress who will play as Darna.
In relation to Erik Matti’s controversial tweets, Duterte supporters decided to make a campaign to boycott the upcoming films of the award-winning director.
The drive to boycott the director’s film started when screenshot of his tweet had spread in social media on May 24. The tweet reads: “In case you haven’t read my tweets before, I’ll say it again: ‘Sa lahat ng bumoto, put*ng ina nyo!’ Isa pa: ‘Put*ng ina nyo!’”
Many believe that the disputatious tweet is connected to the Duterte supporters who voted for President Rodrigo Duterte, who recently declared Martial Law in Mindanao — a decision that was condemned by some celebrities.
As a result, Duterte supporters fired back at the director by cursing him also. However, as the loathing started to puff out, some supporters have encouraged their fellow DDS to boycott Erik’s film such as “On the Job 2”, “Buy Bust”, and the much-awaited “Darna”.
Some Duterte supporters tagged the official account of the director on Twitter and warned him to boycott his projects.
On the other hand, a Facebook page titled DuterteSerye encouraged their followers to avoid watching “Darna”, which is rumored to be top-billed by Kapamilya actress Liza Soberano.
The post says, “Sorry Liza Soberano. This has nothing to do with you. BUT because of your arrogant Darna director, Filipinos who are supportive of the president might as well NOT WATCH your movie. MINURA NA KAMING LAHAT, TATANGKILIKIN PA RIN NAMIN? ‘WAG NA UY! Kindly tag your family and friends who voted for Digong na minura ng direktor na ito.”
Liza Soberano is reportedly the one who will don the red-and-white costume, as per Philippine Star’s report. Hence, the Duterte supporters, apologized to their idol and emphasized that they do not have any issue with the actress.
As of this writing, the post has garnered more than 7,500+ reactions, 2,400+ comments and 13,100+ shares.
Meanwhile, Star Cinema has yet to air its official statement about the issue. Will they going to replace direk Erik as the director of “Darna” to avoid being boycotted by the supporters of the president?
