It is common knowledge that in the Philippines, only two giant television networks fight neck-to-neck against each other in terms of viewer’s share and profits.
ABS-CBN Corporation, which operates Channel 2, and GMA Network Inc. which broadcasts on Channel 7. The question is, who makes more money and gets a bigger audience share between those two networks?
The battle against both giant networks is so fierce that they have developed household wars often classified based on their favorite shows and solid television channel: Kapamilya (ABS-CBN) and Kapuso (GMA Network).
Both television stations have also ventured into radio broadcasting, cable, movie production, music recording and digital operations. For ABS-CBN, they also owned an international franchise of KidZania, one of the world’s leading indoor theme park for kids located in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig.
Both TV stations also have their respective foundations which lend a hand to our unfortunate brothers and sisters. ABS-CBN has Lingkod Kapamilya Foundation and Bantay Bata while GMA has Kapuso Foundation.
According to statistical figures, although ABS-CBN’s revenues are more than doubled compared to those of GMA Network, both companies’ net income are almost the same pegged at Php3.5 billion respectively.
ABS-CBN also invests more than GMA Network does.
When it comes to ratings and audience share, it’s quite difficult to figure out who’s leading between the two. Both companies simply rely on their respective monitoring agencies which uses different indicators as well. While ABS-CBN relies on Kantar Media and cites nationwide figures, GMA relies on Nielsen Television and cites numbers covering only the country’s urban areas.
ABS-CBN claims its dominance in the whole country yet GMA declares lead in the urban areas, especially in Metro Manila and nearby areas.
