Now, it can be told: Although The Queen of All Media, Kris Aquino has officially landed a role in Hollywood, she has remained mum on the role she’ll be playing on the said project.
This is something new for Kris, after all, we’re used with her proclaiming to the whole world all the new and exciting things that’s happening to her. Maybe she’s not allowed to share much about the details yet.
She purported to play the role of a South East Asian Princess in the movie adaptation of “Crazy Rich Asians” (CRA). It’s also been written that she’ll be portraying either a Malaysian or Bruneian princess.
However, as of this writing it appears that Aquino’s role in the said film based on the 2013 novel of Kevin Kwan remains to be a secret. So far, the only thing that’s confirmed was that one of the major lead roles named Rachel Chu which will be portrayed by Constance Wu.
Aside from Wu, Aquino will star alongside Henry Golding, Malaysian superstar Michelle Yeoh, Sonoya Mizuno and Gemma Chan. “Crazy Rich Asians” will be directed by Jon M. Chu (from “G.I. Joe” and “Step Up” films fame).
There have been talks that the role which will be given to Kris would be something that fits her to a T. When you look into the synopsis of the “Crazy Rich Asians”—it appears to be an outrageously ridiculous story about three rich and pedigreed Chinese.
It had elements of gossip, backbiting and scheming. These things aren’t something new to someone like Kris Aquino. Growing up into the public’s eye with both politics and showbiz in her lineage, those are basically a huge part of Kris Aquino’s own world, either she’s deliberately part of it or she’s carries out herself.
There have been talks that since the major roles have been announced, the remaining supporting roles would still be subjected by process of elimination. It only means the remaining available roles will be possibly given to her.
Based on the story, there are other interesting characters such as the girl named Astrid Leong, Nick Young’s fashionable cousin called “goddess,” but talks have it that the said role went to Gemma Chan. There are four characters left and your choice will be as good as ours which perfectly suits The Queen of All Media. These are: Araminta Lee—Singapore’s most celebrated fashion icon; Kitty Pong, a gold-digger and opera star; Francesca Shaw, snobbish and vain ex-girlfriend of Nick and Cassandra Shang—Nick’s gossipy second cousin who seems to know everything about everyone.
In her Instagram post, Kris shared how Tony and Grammy-winner Broadway producer Jhett Tolentino asked her if she’s interested to audition for a role. “He was helping a Filipino-Chinese-American agent friend of his so he asked if I’d want to audition for a big Hollywood studio movie [that’s] about to start filming,” shares Kris.
Netizens took to social media to congratulate Kris Aquino with her inclusion in the said Hollywood project. It doesn’t really matter what role Kris will be playing in “Crazy Rich Asians” for as long as she’s made a project Hollywood (Hey, not everyone gets that chance!), we’re going to be happy for her.
