Kapamilya singer Jona Viray gave her thoughts on why GMA Network discontinued the airing of its music variety shows “SOP” “Party Pilipinas” and “Sunday All-Stars.”
In her interview with entertainment site PEP.ph, Viray said that longevity is the biggest difference between Kapuso music shows and ABS-CBN’s “ASAP.”
She explained, “Kaya siguro hindi masyadong nagtagal ‘yung mga variety shows namin noon sa GMA, I think they have to come up with another idea para mas mapaigting pa, mas mapaganda pa lalo yung programa kaya they keep on changing.”
Viray also believes that the strong point of the successor “Sunday PinaSaya” is its strategy to amuse their audience in a comedic way.
“Nagkataon kasi na yung trend ngayon is dumating sa point na mas nagugustuhan yata ng mga tao ang napapanood nila ‘pag Sunday ng tanghali is puro katatawanan or mas novelty pa.”
She also recalled when “ASAP” came up to an idea of featuring some comedic acts on its segments, but still chose to stick on its root—concert style.
“Parang nagcome-up din naman sila ng ganoong concept sa ASAP so ngayon lang na bumalik ulit sa musical, concert style, dahil siguro namiss ng mga tao yung ganoong klaseng concept every Sunday ng tanghali,” she said.
She further added, “Nagkataon din na maraming mga musical artists na nandito sa ABS. Kaya siguro bumalik yung ganoong klaseng concept ng show.”
Meanwhile, Viray shared how she and now-Kapamilya Jaya Ramsey interacted upon seeing each other in ABS-CBN building.
“Noong first time na pagkikita namin ni Ate Jaya, sobrang ano, parang pakiramdam namin, sobrang tagal namin hindi nagkita. Talagang ang higpit ng yakapan namin. Parang sa magkaibigan na nagkamustahan.”
The first quarter of March was indeed a great season for Viray. She has an upcoming concert with her group Birit Queens. Most importantly, she has has her first album under Star Music entitled “Jona.”
Her physical album will be released on March 3 and the online tracks were up on Spotify on February 28
