Over the years, “Darna” has introduced only one protagonist. But did you know that the early version of Darna and her human form Narda were played by two different actresses?
That’s one of the facts cited by stylist Fanny Serrano. On his Instagram, Fanny posted collages of Kapamilya star Kiray Celis and Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach.
In the caption, the make-up artist recalled his childhood when Darna was played by Rosa del Rosario while the Mila Nimpa portrayed the role of Narda.
He was referring to the first-ever “Darna” film that was shown in 1951.
Fanny then explained why Darna and Narda should be portrayed by two different actresses — to hide the protagonist’s real identity against the villains.
The early version of “Darna” was indeed similar to another Mars Ravelo creation “Captain Barbell”.
He then lamented over ABS-CBN and Angel Locsin’s mutual decision to drop “Darna” as her comeback film. However, he found the characteristics of Darna in Pia.
“Ang pinaka-perfect na dapat pumalit [kay Angel Locsin] ay si PIA WURTZBACH na mala-Wonder Woman ang porma na super minamahal din naman ng mga Pilipino all around the world at ang kasikatan ay sa buong Universe,” he explained.
On the other hand, Kiray is his favorite to play Darna’s human form. “At sino ang maghihinalang si Narda ay si Darna?” he wrote.
Fanny also assured, “For sure, it will be an honest-to-goodness adventure ng isang original istorya ni DARNA!!!”
