Actress Cherry Pie Picache joined prominent people who opposed the Death Penalty Bill.
Aside from her fellow actress Agot Isidro, Picache took to Instagram to express her ojection on the said bill.
She posted a slogan: “The Death Penalty kills people, not crime.”
The 46-year-old explained the reasons to oppose the bill.
She wrote that death penalty is racist to begin with, and it only punishes only poor people.
Picache also explained that the bill condemns the innocent to die. She further wrote that it is deterrent to violent crime.
She then described Death Penalty Bill as “cruel and unusual punishment.”
The actress elaborated the effect of the said bill when passed into the law.
“The death penalty fails to recognize that guilty people have the potential to change, denying them the opportunity to ever rejoin society,” she stressed.
Recently, CNN Philippines reported that the bill will be only limited to drug-related offenses.
Moreover, many people opposed the bill as it excluded rape, plunder and treason for crimes that are punishable by death.
