Vice Ganda asked Filipinos to stop bashing Miss Universe Philippines Maxine Medina.
On January 26, the comedian stated that Maxine “has a very big chance” to win in the competition especially if Filipinos will pray for her. He said that he was helping Medina by promoting her on Twitter.
“’Pag nanalo ‘yan, pride nating lahat. ‘Di ba? Kaya ipagdasal natin, trabahuhin natin na manalo yung kandidata natin,” Vice Ganda said.
“Nakakahiya nga, kasi ‘yung kandidata natin, bina-bash natin. Nakakaloka.
“E sa ibang bansa, makarinig sila ng maling mag-Ingles, wala naman sila’ng pakialam. Hindi naman big deal ‘yon. Hindi big deal ‘yon. Sa Pilipinas lang talaga big deal ‘yung Ingles,” he added.
“Akala mo naman ang huhusay talaga natin.”
The comedian host encouraged the people to support and to claim Medina “that she’s gonna win [in Miss Universe.]”
Medina’s communication skill was the center of criticism since she attended a press conference on January 10. Filipinos especially netizens noticed the woman’s grammatically incorrect statements.
Whether or not Medina will get an interpreter on the coronation night is still a question.
The live coronation for the 65th Miss Universe will be simultaneously broadcasted on the three biggest Philippine TV network at 8am on January 30.
