Rachel Alejandro finally apologized to Asia’s Songbird Regine Velasquez through Instagram.
The singer-actress had a chance to apologize after Velasquez reposted a publicity poster of Alejandro’s upcoming Valentine concert on her Instagram account.
It was a typical promotion from Velasquez, and then suddenly a netizen called out Alejandro for making a negative remark against Velasquez ten years ago.
The netizen with the username #minalucia143 wrote: “@rachelalejandro see how nice regine is… and you would say that she is the most overrated singer in the phil???”
Alejandro responded and admitted that she must have been out of her mind when she called Velasquez “overrated” singer. She reiterated that she is now a big fan of Velasquez.
She said, “I’ve never personally apologized to Ms. Regine although I made a public apology on Ricky’s column to all those I hurt during that incident.
The 42-year-old singer told another netizen: “I am owning up to the wrongdoing and hope her other fans will forgive me as well.”
Netizens gave her nothing but positive responses.
The controversial remarks happened more than ten years ago when Alejandro and fellow singer Geneva Cruz took the hot seat in Magic 89.9’s “Good Times.” The singers had played the celebrity challenge called “Forbidden Questions” with DJ Mo Twister.
When asked about singers who have overrated voices, Alejandro answered “Regine Velasquez.” She explained that she like singers with big voices rather than singers with a high range voice. Meanwhile, fellow singer Cruz answered, “Sheryn Regis, because she also has a Regine feel.”
Nonetheless, Rachel Alejandro’s act was impressive. Owning up to your mistake and apologizing in public is not an easy thing to do for a celebrity. Also, Regine Velasquez proves that she is a singer with a golden heart by helping Alejandro to promote her concert, even though the Asia’s Songbird didn’t hear any apology from her fellow singer for so many years.
