GMA Vice President for Entertainment Lilybeth Rasonable and Vice President for Corporate Affairs and Communications Angela Javier Cruz answered one of the toughest question in showbiz—which Philippine TV network is the real number one?
On January 16, the GMA executives proudly proclaimed GMA Network as the “true number one TV station in the country.”
They also explained the reason why AGB Neilsen is the more relevant ratings provider instead to Kantar Media.
“Ang AGB Nielsen is the more popular and widely used ratings provider in the industry. Pati sa trade, `yun talaga ang ginagamit. `Yung Kantar, it [has] less subscribers. AGB Nielsen… is used even by the people from the advertising industry,” Rasonable explained.
“It’s 77 percent. So it’s like saying 77 percent of the [urban] TV audience is watching GMA. Well kumbaga, kung number 1 ka nationwide, mabigat `yung weight ng 77 percent,” Rasonable continued.
“Urban Luzon comprises already a 77 percent of the total viewing public ng buong Pilipinas. So, lahat ng nanood, 77 percent [ay] nasa Urban Luzon,” Cruz added.
Cruz clarified that AGB Nielsen holds more panel homes in comparison to Kantar Media. “Kapag ki-nombine mo `yung urban at tsaka rural na panel na sinu-survey, mas lamang ng 900 panel homes na sinu-survey ng AGB Nielsen kaysa sa Kantar.”
The top two networks in the Philippines, ABS-CBN and GMA, are claiming the top spot in nationwide viewership ratings.
Kantar Media claims that it uses a nationwide panel size of 2,609 urban and rural homes that represents 100 percent of the total Philippine TV viewing population.
AGB Nielsen, however, uses a panel size of 1,980 homes based only in urban areas that only stands for 57 percent of the total viewing population in the country.
