It is a bittersweet moment for the K-pop fans today. After 3 years of hiatus, Korean girl group 2NE1 is back… for the last time.
The group, consist of Asia’s Darling Sandara Park, Asia’s Bombshell Bom Park, and The World’s Baddest Female CL, has showered their fans a brand new single titled “Goodbye.”
Today, January 21, Blackjacks around the world have united to support the last project of the highly acclaimed girl group.
At exactly 12 midnight, the music video of “Goodbye” was released in the group’s official YouTube channel. Due to high volume of viewers, the black-and-white video received more than 400,000 views in less than 30 minutes.
The accompanying single charted at number 1 position in Melon chart, South Korea’s largest music site.
On iTunes, the song has managed to debut at number 1 position in 8 countries including the Philippines.
In addition, “Goodbye” has charted at number 11 on Worldwide iTunes Song chart, surpassing Maroon 5’s “Don’t Wanna Know” and The Chainsmokers’ “Closer.”
The music video has viewed more than 2.2 million times on YouTube in its first 24 hours.
It is also currently one of YouTube Philippine’s trending videos (peaking at number 1).
The single however is on its shaky spot, staying at the second position in most of the music sites in South Korea. This scenario is unsurprising because of the current OST trend that dominates the country’s music market. Nonetheless, “Goodbye” is still the number 1 non-OST song in South Korea despite Bom Park’s drug controversy.
With more than 65 million records sold, 2NE1 is the third-best selling girl group of all time—behind the legends Spice Girls and Destiny’s Child.
The remaining members will embark on solo projects as they say “goodbye” to their fans… for a while.
