Indie actress Mercedes Cabral has received some of the worst reactions when she posted her sentiments regarding Mother Lily’s statements on indie films being shown on Christmas day.
During the blog-con of “Oro,” one of the entries for this year’s Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF 2016), Mercedes did not deny her statement and clarified that the post was just a reaction to the article. “It’s just a pure reaction and opinion doon sa article na nabasa ko na sinabi na ‘Ang Pasko ay para sa mga bata. Kawawa ang mga bata’,” she said.

Mother Lily previously said in a press conference that she cried when her latest film “Mano Po 7: Chinoy” did not make the highly coveted Magic 8 list for the MMFF 2016 in favor of independent films. She argued that the Yuletide season is for the kids and the whole family. She added that it is not the time to show independent films.
“There is a time for the indie movies. But not during the Christmas season. Christmas is for the family,” Mother Lily was quoted as saying.
