In a surprising turn of events, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) on Friday left out what were thought to be the frontrunners for selection to the 42nd Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF)—the productions of major movie companies with big name stars which have long been “regulars” to the all-Filipino movie event.
And to the surprise of many fans of MMF, the film of television host Vic Sotto was not included. For more than a decade, we’re seeing Vic Sotto movies during MMFF… and for this year, his “Enteng Kabisote” failed to make it on the Magic 8.
On Twitter on Friday (November 18) night, his brother Sen. Tito Sotto could not help but blurt out his sentiments on Social Media.
On his Twitter account followed by “Eat Bulaga,” account handle said, “First time in MMFF history, no movie for d children! They forgot that Christmas is for d children! MMFF Select comm, are you kidding?”
Sotto also replied on one of the replies, “@vidad_princess sabihin natin kay Vic ipalabas nya before Christmas”
Per the new rules, the conditions for the choice of finalists are built on story, audience appeal, overall impact (40 percent); cinematic attributes and technical excellence (40 percent); global appeal (10 percent); and Filipino sensibility (10 percent).

Last year, the MMFF has been rocked with several controversies following the sudden disqualification of Erik Matti’s “Honor Thy Father” from the Best Picture” category.
