Before gaining fame as the country’s lone medalist in the 2016 Olympics, Hidilyn Diaz was just like any ordinary Filipino.
She was struggling to make something out of life and was trying her best to help her family make ends meet. Those were some of the challenges she faced early on.
The world-class weightlifter shares her life story and how she ended up in the world’s biggest sporting stage this Thursday (November 24) on “Sports U.” Diaz viewed weightlifting as a lifesaver, something that can help her family climb its way out of poverty. True enough, the sport was able to help her, and she eventually learned to love it and live it.
Like Diaz, the members of the National University (NU) Pep Squad have made their sport a passion. This showed in their performance at the recent UAAP Cheerdance Competition, where they copped the top honors for the fourth consecutive year.
“Sports U” was there to catch all the amazing highlights and stunts that the various cheering squads of the UAAP member school performed.
Lastly, the program will also feature star Piolo Pascual, who once again took to the roads at the Sunpiology fun run, which aims to promote health and fitness, as well as educate about diabetes. He was joined by other actors like Jake Cuenca, Gerald Anderson, and his son Inigo Pascual.
